Tim Discussion:

Successful non-profit organizations consistently take the time to listen to their beneficiaries, board members, staff, volunteers, donors, and other organizations. Such organizations employ innovative approaches to identify, share, and apply results and lessons learned from their programs and initiatives. They collect and analyze data to develop new programs that cater to the evolving needs and requirements of their beneficiaries.

One way to ensure that your non-profit is always listening and improving is to create a culture of feedback. Fostering a culture of feedback is crucial to the success of any organization. It requires an open, feedback-oriented company culture, where people can give and receive feedback about any aspect of organizational life. However, this feedback should be given and received productively, empathetically, and with sensitivity (Ibrisevic, 2023).

Nonprofit organizations have always aimed to bring about social change and improve the world we live in. However, the current environment is vastly different than it was a few decades ago. As a result, nonprofit leaders must adapt to the changing times if they want to achieve their goals. While traditional measures of success, such as financial viability, number of donations, or number of beneficiaries served, still apply, the definition of success is evolving. The meaning of a successful, effective and high-performing nonprofit is constantly changing with time (Ibrisevic, 2023).

Janisa Discussion:

Hello Peers,

Not-for-profit organizations via collaborations, partnerships, and mergers with other organizations that share similar goals and values can be opportunities for growth (Worth, 2020).   Partnerships and collaborations can be an awesome way to expand a not-for-profit organization’s range and influence.  Unfortunately, partnerships may sidetrack resulting in conflicts not initially accounted for during the planning stages.  The type of not-for-profit organizations that are likely to benefit from partnership growth strategies are those not-for-profit organizations that want to change their communities or change the world.  Choosing the appropriate partnership and knowing what the ideal vision for a partnership looks like for the organization specific needs are some of the common reasons for merger (Forbes Experts, 2022).  After choosing an appropriate partnership, prepare the organization for partnering by identifying the expectations and what the other organization will bring to the table to determine if the partnership will be worthwhile. Small scaled short-term partnerships are typically ideal as this allow the organizations to lay down a basic foundation first before entering into anything epic or massive.

The growth strategy I feel is appropriate for So Others Might Eat, Inc. (SOME) is collaboration.  Collaboration brings together talent, ideas, perspectives, synergy to projects and a better understanding of how to meet needs, solve problems and create opportunities (Worth, 2020).  SOME, Inc. utilizes collaboration as a tool for sustainability and growth of its mission to provide meals, health and dental care, drug rehabilitation treatment, and housing.  SOME, Inc.'s President and CEO Ralph Boyd has been serving the homeless community in the District of Columbia in collaboration with Freddie Mac Foundation, Inc. for seven years (SOME, 2023).
