Obama’s Free Community College Plan
In 2015 Obama purposed an idea to allow for students to get their 2-year community college degree for free. The plan was proposed to “free for anyone who's willing to work for it” (Lai, 2015, p # 1). The plan would affect about 9 million students, the students who qualified would have to maintain a 2.5 GPA as well as be on track to graduate. Under the plan Obama proposed, the federal government would provide three-quarters of the cost for tuition, and the states that participate would be responsible for the remaining 25 percent. This would allow for full-time students to save an average of $3,800 in annual tuition (Lai, 2015). This plan would help more students to get their 2-year degree and not have to worry about debt.

What students qualify to be involved the program for free community college |
Each term students will be evaluated – at the end of the fall and spring semesters, and summer courses if it applies |
Colleges will have to evaluate students in the program each semester by going through the GPA’s, and would report any that don’t qualify anymore |

Evaluating retention rates for the graduates who are involved in the program |
At the end of each fall and spring terms |
By evaluating the graduating rates each term by seeing how many students are graduating and or are not |

Data will be collected as the semester goes on to track how students are doing, and at the end of the semester can help to calculate how students are doing. Working with the White House and the colleges can help to create communication plan that will help the program to stay accurate. Keeping up with the student’s success is key at the start of the program and will be an indicator of how it will go in the future.

Ayanna Discussion:
In the year 2015, Barack Obama proposed an idea that will allow students to complete their 2 year community college degree for free. This plan would help 9 million students who will have to maintain a CGPA of 2.5 and should be able to complete their graduation sincerely. As per this plan, the federal government is going to provide three quarters of the cost for the tuition fees. The remaining 25% of the amount will be pooled in by the US states who are willing to participate. The indicators for this program will be that which of the students qualify for the program as per the eligibility requirements and retention rates of the students. With respect to the frequency, students will be assessed and evaluated and the data collected would comprise of their GPAs and attendance rate in the classes. This means that although this is a great scheme, the students will have to put in an effort to fulfill the eligibility criteria and the requirements of the program with respect to GPA and attendance. The following are the three indicators:
1. Student Academic Qualifications: It is important to always ensure whether the students are making progress with respect to GPA and maintaining it as well.
2. Student Enrollment and Retention Data: It is also important to ensure that if the program is achieving increased enrollment.
Frequency
1. Every semester the GPA of the students will be assessed (Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter)
2. The retentions and enrollment data will be evaluated annually.
How it would be collected?
1. The information regarding the GPA of the students would be requested from the White House Staff.
2. The information regarding the enrollment and retention rates would be elicited from the National Center for Educational Statistics and then will be compared with previous years
