By Day 2 respond to at least two of your classmates, critiquing their choice of framework based on the practice issue. Offer insights for using the framework or suggest a framework that may work better with their practice issue.

DISCUSSION:

A theoretical framework is a structure that guides to the development of research by defining the key concepts and discussing how they relate (McEwin & Mills, 2019). The purpose of this discussion board post is to select a theoretical framework in a published study to evaluate and consider how this framework might be applied to a practice problem of interest.

Illness perceptions, depression and anxiety in informal careers of persons with depression: a cross-sectional survey, written by Scerri et al. (2019), was a study conducted in an effort to examine the perception of caretakers for those with depression and anxiety and how psychological well-being is measured. The researchers collected data using the informal carers completed the modified Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQS-Relatives version) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) (Scerri et al., 2019). The theoretical framework used in this research study was the Leventhal's Common-Sense Model (CSM). The Leventhal’s Common-Sense Model is a “processes by which patients become aware of a health threat, navigate affective responses to the threat, formulate perceptions of the threat and potential treatment actions, create action plans for addressing the threat, and integrate continuous feedback on action plan efficacy and threat-progression” (Leventhal, Phillips, & Burns, 2016). The theoretical framework was appropriate for the research applied in the article because of its implication in self-care and self-perception that guides to health outcomes.

There are several practice problems that I can apply the Leventhal’s Common-Sense Model to in the clinical setting. One practice problem that the theoretical framework can be applied to is smoking cessation. A patient can receive educated about the threat of health issues if they continue to smoke and they can analyze the negative affect that smoking will have on their body. From there they can determine what they will do in response to the threat.
