The Assignment: Write a personal response paper (1000 words, 3-4 pages) according to the patterns taught in class. Use APA 7.

The cognitive task of a personal response is to explain your intellectual, emotional, personal, and comparative responses to the prompt. Do not write a summary of the topic. Do not explain the historical information. Do not write a research paper. Instead, you must focus on what YOU think and show how the primary source gives you this response.

This paper should include:

• Title page • Content pages

o Brief introductory paragraph (approx. 3 sentences) that includes personal response thesis statement o A background paragraph that summarizes the prompt and provides historical context o 3 body paragraphs that explain your thesis and focus on your own response o Brief concluding paragraph (approx. 3 sentences)

• References page

The Evidence: The evidence for this paper is from your prompt (the primary source itself).

When you summarize background information (ONLY for your background paragraph) in your background paragraph, be sure to include your citations and reference. For historical background, it is best to paraphrase, which means you re-tell the information yourself in your own style.
