Response 6
QUESTIONS:
1. Reflect on your learning in this course. Include a discussion of specific DNP Essentials you have met through the course activities.
2. Write out each course objective and discuss in what ways you achieved these objectives.
3. How will you apply what you have learned to your present and future practice? Give three specific examples using scholarly reference.
One post is written in response to fellow learners’ post and each between 100-150 words. Responses are substantive insightful and contain at least one reference.
Reflect on your learning in this course. Include a discussion of specific DNP Essentials you have met through the course activities.
From the beginning of this course, I have been challenged to become a more advanced scholarly practitioner and to prepare for the clinical role as a DNP prepared nurse. Overall, this course has given me the knowledge combined with the appropriate utilization of tools to further understand research methods, adequate appraisal of literature through various techniques and different methodologies. This directly correlates to the DNP Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice (AANC, 2006). As a DNP prepared nurse, I will not be conducting research, but it’s necessary to be able to recognized non-biased, high-quality literature that can be applied and translated into the clinical setting. This fulfills the DNP Essential VI: Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient and Population Health Outcomes (AANC, 2006). The PhD prepared nurse conducts research and the DNP prepared nurse must collaborate in order to ensure direct translation into practice to improve patient health outcomes (Chism, 2019).
Course objective and discuss in what ways you achieved these objectives.
1. Evaluate evidence-based approaches to delivery of leadership services in nursing inapplicable practice settings. This objective was achieved during week 1 and week 2 of the course during the group assignment geared towards supporting a current practice in the organizational setting and implementation by the DNP prepared nurse.
2. Use analytic methods to critically appraise evidence including literature to determine and implement evidence-based practice. This objective was achieved during week 2 during the group assignment, as evidence was appraised to identify guidelines that can be implemented in the organizational setting to prevent or minimize ventilator acquired pneumonia.
3. Explore methodologies to improve student and/or patient outcomes through dissemination of evidence-based practice. During the Delphi Technique discussion, I explored methodologies within The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to identify a national guideline for patients who are at risk for the development of pressure ulcers.
4. Demonstrate the conceptual ability and skill to extract applicable information from databases to facilitate evaluation of information as it pertains to practice. Information was extracted from various databases to include PubMed, CINAHL. A consort checklist and bibliography were created in order to organize the authors and specific details.
5. Appraise evidence and apply it to policy development in the nursing leadership arena. During the second group assignment, the group I was in appraised evidence to create the group PICO question: Does Early Progressive Mobilization Reduce Rates of Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia for Patients with Mechanical Ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit?
6. Employ communication skills and the spirit of inquiry, nursing judgment, professional identity, and collaborative skills in the development of practice models. These concepts were integrated in the required evidence-based practice paper that was written in this course.
7. Demonstrate nursing judgment in designing, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based care to improve client and/or patient outcomes in the nursing leadership arena. Meaningful conversations were had during the group assignments and module discussions that addressed national guidelines and the ways in which this impact patient outcomes and improved care.
8. Evaluate evidence-based approaches to information technology in nursing leadership within applicable nursing practice settings. With both of the group assignments, technology was used to disseminate information amongst team members by using google documents to create both word documents and a PowerPoint to present to the class.
How will you apply what you have learned to your present and future practice? Give three specific examples using scholarly reference.
1. With the completion of this course, I will use the knowledge acquired to appraise research at a higher level with the use of checklists and specific inclusion/exclusion criteria in order for this information to be translated into clinical practice. The DNP as a leader is responsible for the implementation of evidence-based research to provide high quality, patient-centered care (Chism, 2019).
2. As a scholarly leader and educator, I will further teach those around me and continue personal growth of learning in order to increase productivity within the healthcare organization and ensure administration is working to the benefit the improvement of resource allocation and appropriate staffing (Hall & Roussell, 2016).
3. I will ensure adequate collaboration amongst the interdisciplinary team to encourage different perspectives for the common purpose of achieving the same goal (Sherrod & Goda, 2016).
