My research proposal attempts to answer why discrimination among law enforcement Officers still exists in the public's eye. There are trust concerns with citizens and police who mostly live in underprivileged and low-income communities. I planned to apply the mixed research method to accumulate information. More than enough information was recived from this class; this covers the qualitative and quantitative techniques. The results must not be prejudiced in any way by the researcher; their quantitative or the proper research instrument has the goal of being both accurate and reliable (Pelz, n.d.). Study has discovered the impact of ethnicity and race and on perceptions from residents on the police officers (McNeeley, Susan & Grothoff, Garrett 2015). Racial tension in communities have impacts on citizens that are recognized as racial profiling by law enforcement officers. This research has implications for future police policies (McNeeley, Susan & Grothoff, Garrett 2015).
When choosing instruments for a research proposal, it is essential to utilize techniques that have been examined for the kind of research that is needed. It is vital to see that when inquiring about research instruments, there is a chance of reaching four various outcomes, which are the following: "the aspect is reliable, but not valid; valid, but not reliable; neither reliable nor valid; or both reliable and valid" (Pelz, n.d.). We read about the terms "validity" and "reliability" related to the research instruments this week. To test the authenticity of an instrument, It should "reflect the instrument that is entered in previous studies to produce replicated and consonant results" (Mohajan, 2017). The questionnaire is efficient and secure because it has been applied in similar examinations as a research instrument consisting of communities, law enforcement officers, and civilians. For example, the same tool was used on the same measuring tool to mark different thoughts of racial tension among the minority population and officers in high minority-based areas (McNeeley, Susan & Grothoff, Garrett 2015).
Concerning the qualitative portion of my research paper, I plan to make a questionnaire for residents who reside inside the minority communities and include the law enforcement officers who patrol the areas. The individuals who partake in the questionnaire will give their opinions on whether law enforcement officers make their patrol stops based on biased decision-making or are just doing their job. In addition, the individuals that participated in the questionnaire will render their perceptions of officers. Thus, it will help decrease incidents, provide information on building trust.
The validity research tool is an instrument that estimates what it is thought to cover and function as it is intended to when it is time to perfom (McNeeley, Susan & Grothoff, Garrett 2015). The questionnaire will map to see if changes happen regarding developing trust among officers and residents in the communities and decreasing criminal occurrences. This week's exercise shows that practicing self-designed instruments is dissuaded due to fact of not being tested successfully to guarantee they perform as required (Mohajan, 2017).
