Module 3

What are the ethical considerations in collecting data for your DSP?

My exploratory case study is reliant on semi-structured interviews with Patient Care Technicians. My role as the researcher will be to protect the person and the information they give me along with there privacy and confidentiality (Yip, Han, & Sng, 2016). An informed consent will be given that outlines the role the participant will play and how the information they provide will be used. It is imperative that no harm is caused to the participant, this can include harm from employer retaliation (Yip, Han, & Sng, 2016). All participants in my study will be of legal age and will be able to voluntary consent for themselves. No patient data will be used in my study therefore no HIPAA documents will be required.

Describe the IRB

Trident’s IRB is a board that serves to oversee processes in place to protect individuals participating in research studies, requiring researchers to submit detailed and descriptive outlines of study proposals (Trident, n.d.). The goal is to ensure participants are not subjected to something that could harm them, that they treated with respect and dignity, and with actions that align with the participants best interests.

How can I streamline the IRB process?             First and foremost, Trident offers a very detailed look at the IRB process. It is imperative that researchers be thorough and complete when pulling the documents and resources to submit for a review. This means ensuring the Protecting Human Rights and Participants class is completed, appropriate faculty and site approvals are completed, and that all documents required for the application are completed clearly and concisely. Organization is key here. Trident does an excellent job of providing the steps in an easy-to-execute way.

Hello Fellow Classmates & Dr. Salvaggio,

It has been time consuming in finding the materials needed for my review. There does not appear to be significant materials on meeting performance requirements or outcomes based on delivery schedule by contractors working on U.S. government contracts. There are more materials on the wider topic of performance in the commercial or non-government environment.  My search focus is on vendors meeting contractor delivery performance on U.S. government contracts.

There are a few significant problems overall. The main significant problem overall is I am not sure my DSP problem is a good one that will eventually be approved by the DBA committee. I feel like I am kicking the can down the road without any feedback whether the topic is feasible or not feasible. Next, there appears to be lesser materials regarding contractor performance in U.S. government contractor. There are materials on major systems programs with overall performance issues with cost-overruns which does not apply to my DSP issue. I would rather work with an advisor on the front end of my DSP that would have a greater chance of acceptance than try to refine the problem at the time of submission when under a time constraint.

I have overcome the main significant problem in realizing if I need to change my DSP problem that it can be done later. I have picked up that the current work being done is a draft for the DSP and any changes can occur later. Next, my search for materials for my review is easier if I search for U.S. government resources on content regarding vendor delivery performance. I want to make the DSP relevant to my field of experience, government contracting. In government contracting the focus is holding the contractor or vendor accountability against the contract requirements. According to Zamroni (2019) there is no agreed upon doctrine what determines accountability though it can be defined as a state of being responsible to things (p.201). In this case, the things are defined in the performance requirements of a U.S. government contract for the contractor to delivery.
