Response to this classmate:
What different types of power (power over, power from, power to, integrative power) are at play, and how so? Be sure to provide specific supporting examples.
Throughout the discussion in the podcast, most of the types of power are at play in many ways. The first noticeable one is the Integrative Power that Demario Davis is utilizing. He is using a platform and personal funds to inspire others. By being knowledgeable of the facts of what is going on with people fleeing to the states, and the justice system, and helping others,
The second power (power over) is discussed when talking about the Cash Bail System in America. Davis states that those with the funds and that is in jail can get out if they have the money for it while others may be in jail for months on end during pre-trail. It can be even more unjust when that person in the trial might be falsely accused and not able to afford bail. Power Over is about the unequal relationship leading to injustice. Cash bail in a sense is dominating others through control of valued resources.
A final noticeable example is Power To which someone can pursue their own goals and develop self-determination and freedom to engage in social activities and roles in society. Davis is able to inspire others with similar backgrounds to do the same. As minuscule, as it might be to help a handful of people what mattered to Davis is that everything done is significant to individuals who experience it and for a greater good/higher power. He discussed getting Jose Bello out of jail over his freedom of speech when reading his poem and utilizing resources for someone he didn't know because it felt right, In other words, to do what others would want from you and reciprocate that energy.
