The field of medicine is filled with so many cases of research and findings that can raise eyebrows and at times, also concerns regarding the ethics of acting upon that research. Recent case of Theranos of Elizabeth Holmes is one such example. The way it was marketed presented the solution as a one size fits all but, as time progressed and there was enough evidence on the wrongdoing of the company, things started to fall off as pieces of dominos. To date, the founder is going through trials in court.
Secondly, any kind of study is going to present a dataset which can be viewed through multiple lenses. The findings of any kind of study, whatever they are, can be subjected to a lot of criticism and can be validated by either increasing the size of the data or by getting peer review done. This process at least helps ensure that the findings of a study are being further validated. The gravity of the findings is also important to be noted here. If it is going to create a significant impact on someone’s life then it does need further research.
Based on the discussion being posted here, it is really evident that the pharma companies should be presenting caution based advisories so that any patient who is going to take the drug can think twice before taking the medication.
