As a IT manager, I will use a software Enterprise resource planning (ERP) to manage day-to-day business activities across many job functions. For example, marketing, project management, finance, accounting, supply chain operations. Companies also use ERP to plan, predict, and manage finance budgets and reports. Companies use ERP to connect multiple business processes and manage data across multiple platforms to ensure consistency. ERP allows companies to reduce duplicated data and integrate database systems by sharing data using the same system.

Companies of all sizes and across all industries can use ERP. To further explain, ERP is designed to use one single structure that accesses the database. Using the same structure is to ensure companies use the information the same way and under the same definitions. ERP then is connected to multiple business processes from different departments, ensuring the integration of resources, processes, and technologies.

For instance, an electronic good manufacturer creates electronic goods using many different suppliers. It can use ERP to purchase materials and make sure that all the components throughout the production process use consistent data that is connected to business processes, data analytics, and production flow. When a manufacturer uses ERP, a component such as a computer engine is identified by name, size, materials, types, and costs. These information can be collected and stored as data and ERP optimize data collection, analysis, and operation so that people working across different departments can access clean and unique data.

The benefits of using ERP include improving business processes, collecting real time business information, improving cooperation across departments, optimizing risk management by integration of data and finance management, and Information infrastructure consistency.
