The principles of critical thinking are reasoning, evaluation, analyzing, decision making, and problem solving. Problem solving which is the main reason to critically think would be defined as fixing a problem that arises. Solving a problem like fixing a flat tire involves critical thinking on what steps are needed to get the task complete. The next most important would be decision making defined as saying you options and determining your best option. A decision would be to stay and fix a flat or drive to a shop to fix the tire. Net, I would analyze by using my reasoning and evaluation skills. Analyze would be to inspect your options and weigh the possibilities of achieving the solution you wish for. Reasoning will help you develop your game plan every action has a reason for which it was done. Then finally your evaluation which I think happens twice because you have evaluate or examine your circumstances before and evaluate the outcome of your decisions after your problem solving is complete.

I use critical thinking on a daily bases. It may be something simple like when to change my daughters diaper, or something more time critical like how to treat a my patient. Recently having a new child I have used critical thinking a lot, mostly when she is screaming, trying to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. I start with things I know work like a pacifier, diaper change, and feeding, because i analyzed what may cause her to cry. I used my decision making to determine pacifier, diaper changes, and feeding are valued options, because my reasoning is they worked previously. It would be great if they solved my problem but I will not know unless I evaluate the outcome.
