I agree with the statement that "leadership is about influence", influence can be created in many ways; not every leader is a domineering or charismatic type of person. Some of the best leaders in my life have been quite but lead by example.

I believe my leadership style is being the glue in a team. I believe my strength is brining out the best and creating the best in others for a team. I strongly believe in the "team" and that alone we cannot do what we can do by the strength of a team. I don't think I am a master of anything specifically but especially good at seeing the needs of the team and getting the right personnel l to fit the need and helping them excel in a team setting. The way I have led best and influenced the most was through my character. I try to be someone that does what I say I will do and go above and beyond expectations. I sometimes talk small but do big which creates confidence in my employees and partners. Past success and experience is something that is vital to influencing others. In the professional world who you know is important but your ability is what keeps those relationships. If you are someone that walks the talk and prove your worth, " (you) will stand before kings; (you) will not stand before obscure men." (Proverbs 22:29 ESV) In professional life, maybes, could haves, and probablys don't cut it. Ability is very vital to influencing others especially in a cut throat work environment. I think that the mix of ability, character, and relationships has helped me through my years in China in my work. China is known for for some businessmen that talk but don't walk it, I have made many connections and have a good name in the industry here because I try to walk what I talk and do what I say.
When debating on rather or not I agree or disagree with Maxwell's statement about leadership being influence nothing more nothing less, I could not help to think of my pass work experiences. From my first internship where the only time General Manager of the team would come out of his office was for the game or to collect money, to my last job where the Recreation Director was more hands on with me and focused on developing me for the long run. After listening to this week’s presentation and going back on some of my work experiences, I would agree that leadership is influence nothing more nothing less. I have always believed that to be a good leader, one has to inspire someone to continue to work hard, and inspire them to want more in their respective professions. I had a more positive influence during my second job in the field of sports and recreation, and that is what made me want to pursue going more into athletics.
Being someone that is just starting out in the field of sports management, the method of influences that I use to get people to follow me are; character, ability, and knowledge. I would give myself scores of nine in character, eight in ability, and a seven in knowledge, when it comes to those being my methods I use to influence others. The way I capitalize on my strongest methods of influence, is showing other that I care about what it is I am working on, and that I know what it is I need to do. I believe that showing people how hard you work and being knowledgeable of the field you are working in; they would look to follow. I would give myself a low score of three when it comes to past success and experience. When it comes to the methods, I would score the least on, the way I would better utilize those methods is by leaning more on my stronger methods. With that, I believe that by leaning more on what I am stronger in, it will give me a better experience in the field and help me gain the knowledge to be able to use my experience and past success to my advantage. When it comes to what I would score least on, by spending more time in the field I will be able to gain the past success and experience with time.
