Hi Everyone,

The Pathways to Recovery Drug Court (PRDC) is an adult diversion and therapeutic justice court program proposed for Broward County, Florida. The program would be offered to non-violent adults with substance use disorders charged with low-level felony drug possession crimes who are suitable for community supervision. PRDC would bring together judicial accountability, substance use treatment, mental health services, substance testing, case management, and community-based services for the purpose of reducing recidivism and promoting long-term recovery.

I would welcome feedback as to whether the activities and outcomes in my logic model are appropriately linked and whether the short-term and long-term outcomes are feasible for a 12-18 month drug court program. I would also like recommendations to add other outputs or measures to assess participant progress more effectively. A second place where I would want feedback is on whether the focus for the long-term should still be on reduced recidivism or should also be on recovery, employment, housing stability, and quality of life.

Challenge

One challenge I am facing in developing the logic model is determining how to measure the different factors that contribute to successful program completion. PRDC is intended to treat substance use and offer services across mental health, housing, employment, education and transportation. Because these factors can influence criminal justice outcomes, it may be difficult to determine which program components are most responsible for participant success. This is especially relevant because studies have shown that adult drug courts can decrease recidivism rates, relative to traditional justice processing (Mitchell et al., 2012). My goal is to develop a model that captures both public safety outcomes and the broader recovery and stabilisation goals of the program.
