1st Colleague’s post – Angie T
My most fond and treasured memory of inclusion experience was when I was working as a Director reporting to the most inspiring and outstanding Administrator in a healthcare company. She was an African American, first generation, and women of color. Her innate quality to treat everyone with dignity and respect, acknowledge and promote team members uniqueness and differences, hired the best talent based on their uniqueness, diversity, and competence, and created the most inclusive climate with best outcomes.
She would engage in warm, nurturing, and meaningful personal conversation with every employee, vendor and visitor. She led the most dynamic team, where that team members felt high psychological safety, everyone felt like an insider and brought their true and authentic self to the workplace. The difficult conversations were encouraged and that the team decisions were truly made by the team.
For the first time in my professional journey, I truly felt a sense of belongingness and being a part of something bigger. I enjoyed and looked forward to work every single day, and felt I was unique, special and one in a million. To this day, I am extremely thankful and grateful to have a mentor like her in my life!
