Ethics refers to the accepted moral behavior among individuals in society or specified culture. Ethical issues allow individuals to judge what is wrong and right in their actions. Ethical issues are important when applied in the field of information management and specifically among the (IT) professionals. In relation to this I went through various articles which include Ethics of Information Management by Richard Mason, Privacy in the digital age: a review of information privacy by Belanger and Crosser, Ethical issues for IT security professionals by Deb Shinder and A Review of Ethical Issue Considerations in the Information Systems Research Literature by Hao , Lee , Hall and Paradice.
After a detailed review of all the articles, there are a lot of similarities in terms of ethical issues in Information management. The main similarity in all the articles remains privacy as an ethical issue and the main problems that have resulted out of it. Privacy has become a great concern for various individuals such as scholars, business leaders, privacy activists, government regulators and other stakeholders as private information is available online on social media taking the electronic form. According to Belanger and Crossler, a majority of privacy goals to date have focused on withholding information disclosure, increasing information control and restricting information access. The articles also differ as some Shinder s article asks a lot of questions that leave the reader to come up with their own answer hence the ethical dilemmas that are available in different organizations like; why ethics and information? Richard also introduces accuracy as a distinct ethical issue from others.
The information from all the articles is a clear reflection of chapter 14 of the textbook as all of them are in agreement that privacy and piracy remain the main challenges of the information management sector .on the other hand, they all raise the issues or dilemmas in the information management system and the code of conduct, rules, and regulations that should be followed by all professionals in the information management sector.
The main lessons that I have learned from the review of these articles and the book are that as workers and employers should all remain professional in their work. For an organization to succeed, it should treat its information with high confidentiality and privacy to avoid leakages to unauthorized people especially competitors. Therefore, the success or failure of any organization remains in the hands of the employers and employees.
