· What two Scriptures can you use to guide you into becoming an effective teacher? How will the Scripture help you maximize your potential as a teacher?

Alexis

Lately I’ve been trying to focus more on growing my faith and being  okay with the way things are, one way I’ve been doing that is accepting my students for who they are even if they have a behavior plan or not and knowing I did my best in an IEP meeting even if a parent gets upset. One scripture that I recite daily is Philippians  chapter  four and six which states “Be careful  for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be known unto God”(Philippians 4;6) This scripture has made me so confident as a teacher because I know as long as I am doing what I need to do and making sure that i am consistent with my students. This scripture has also made me more thankful when my students achieve one of their goals. I also recite this scripture right before I begin a IEP meeting.  The second scripture is Jeremiah chapter twenty nine and thirteen which states” And  ye shall seek me and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).  This scripture helps me understand that when I’m hopeful and teaching my student with all my heart that God will show up and guide me to come up with ways to teach my students to help them achieve their goals. Everyday that I wake up I I know that as long as I’m planning accordingly and being consistent and maintaining classroom management my students and I will be okay and i that I can be a efficient teacher.

An effective teacher plans well and having a daily devotion is an excellent segment to add to the plan. One scripture that guides me through the day is Philippians 4: 13. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (KJV, Philippians 4:13). No matter how the day goes I feel like I can conquer it.  My reason for this is that I am not alone. Although physically I am seen by myself His power is within me that causes me to triumph.  He comforts, leads, and instructs me on how to handle issues and situations wisely. When it is not wise, He (Holy Spirit) corrects me. I am not referring to ability but endurance. God will allow you to endure anything. Endure hardship and persecution.  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2 Corinthians 12: 9, KJV). Next, Deuteronomy 31: 6 is another scripture that is used daily. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you. Many people are reminded of their past like the Israelites were reminded of the history of the people who did not wait and doubted God.  The people who trust God no matter how terrifying the circumstances are and do not doubt him but trust in the Lord with all their hearts despite what they are enduring will reach a promised land of success. We must learn to trust in the Lord and obey him even when we don’t understand.

The first verse I thought of while considering taking the step to become a teacher was 1 Peter 4:10, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in whatever form (NIV, 2022)." Growing up, my mother often referred to this verse when I wanted to complain about things in life, school, or church. She was an excellent public school teacher who retired after 30 years of service and is a faithful church servant. When I wanted to skip church choir or Sunday school, she would remind me that we don't go to church for the choir director, our friends, or Sunday school teachers. We go to church to worship GOD and use the gifts he has given us as he intended to show our love and faithfulness for him. If he gave us the ability to sing, we sing, and if he gave us the gift to teach, then we teach. This verse reminds me that everything I do should be "God-centered and driven 100 percent by God." I approach every day as an opportunity to share my gift of leadership and knowledge with my students as God intended for me to do.

Another verse that I reflect on when I think of becoming a more effective teacher is Proverbs 3:5-6 " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him. and he will make your paths straight (NIV, 2022)." Before I begin my day, I ask God to guide me through the day as I deal with problems that arise in my classroom. On more challenging days, I say prayers throughout the day to keep me on track. I ask for God's guidance through difficult situations with students or when I feel discouraged. Prayer can be the one thing that gets me through more challenging days. God's guidance is sufficient every day, especially on those most difficult days.
