nursing
Diss 1 My name is Martha Cordero, I have been a CNA since high school which was a while ago. I love caring for others and seeing their progress. Becoming a nurse is the ultimate dream and I cannot believe I am almost there. I would love to learn anything and everything the class has to offer. I know that in the nursing world being a leader can sometimes take a toll on relationships because not everyone wants to be told what to do or how to do it. For now I do not have any questions regarding the syllabus.
There are many ethical and cultural issues affecting the workforce. As we become more culturally diverse we find ourselves relearning what was once taught to us. For example, I worked as a CNA at a well known hospital and had to shave someone for open heart surgery. The gentleman was Muslim and therefore was a very private individual which I respected but my nurse had the audacity to ask the man to see his private area to make sure he was telling the truth about it being a ritual in his culture to shave there. I turned red a tomato, and thankfully he had a good sense of humor. I am not sure but trusting the patient is part of the process, respecting his culture and his routines is also part of the nursing process. A lot of nurses forget that religion and culture differ for all individuals. Currently, there are always shortages in the medical field. Many professions are underpaid. For example, I believe that CNA deserve better pay, they do so much for the patient and they are the nurse's right hand. The shortage affects the nursing profession because you cannot take care of a patient fully 100% if you have too many patients under your care. Many things could be missed. If there is a shortage in CNA then the nurse also has to pick up the extra work.
Diss 2 Hello, my name is Heather Shelley. I want to be a nurse, so that I can become a family nurse practitioner and help a broader range of people than I currently do. This class is about Leadership, so that’s what I hope to learn more about. I don’t have any questions at this moment. I am hoping it’s all written out for me as I read the syllabus and it’s contents. Nursing shortages are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it won’t ever be hard for us to find a job as nurses. On the other, it means that the job will be very demanding. Responsibilities and work loads will most likely never be light. Having a heavy and more demanding workload can easily lead to exhaustion both mentally and physically. One thing that I have noticed in my clinicals, is the number of nurses we worked with, who were rather new themselves. There doesn’t seem to be many nurses on the floors doing direct patient care who have years of experience. It makes one wonder why this is. Burnout on a job is a very real thing. I have had it with my job a few times. When taking breaks from work, it took 2-4 new hires to do my job because of lack of experience. If we continue to put additional stress on nurses, then burnout is a real issue, that results in more shortages, and so the wheel turns. We need to ask ourselves, what can we do to reduce burnout in nurses, thus reducing the early retirement and shortage of nurses in the U.S.. Jennings, B. M. (n.d.).
