Active reading is very important. It allows individuals to master what they have read and allows them to understand more in-depth. Active reading involves 4 steps which are: previewing, reading actively, highlighting, and reviewing. The first step, which is previewing means that you skim through a reading without reading the actual text. The purpose of previewing is so you get an idea of what you are about to read. The second step, is reading actively. This step means reading a body of text with determination to fully understand the reading in-depth. The third step is highlighting. This step is very important because it allows for you to visually see important terms. The last step is reviewing. This step is important since it is how you will understand the material.
Currently, with my current courses, when I have readings I have to read, I will print out the readings and follow the active reading steps. 2 examples that I have used active reading would be previewing and highlighting. In high school this was very helpful for me, it allowed me to understand what I was reading very well. During exam season it can be very overwhelming when trying to study for multiple courses. This method allowed me to excel in my courses.
