COU 630 Week Six Appropriate Tools and Resources Worksheet
When completing client assessments, it is important to select the appropriate tools and resources. In this activity, you will practice choosing the appropriate tools and resources for client assessments in the following two scenarios.
Scenario One
A client comes to counseling feeling depressed and very stressed out. However, the client is unable to pinpoint when the depression started. However, after a very thorough intake, you both agree that things have changed at the client’s job, and your client is no longer satisfied with the work. Your client is no longer interested in doing the work and finds it really hard to get up in the morning and go to work. Once at work, your client is bored and irritated, and everything about being there puts your client in a foul mood.
1. Now that you both understand that your client’s emotional concerns are work-related, how do you move forward to help the client? What resources and tools will you use to help?
2. What additional information will you need in order to help move this client forward?
3. What are your client’s career goals?
4. How will you evaluate the results?
Scenario Two
A client who has a criminal background comes to your office ready for assistance in determining a career. Your client is aware there might be limited opportunities because of past decisions, but has always scored very high on IQ tests and is able to pick up on things very easily. However, because of this capacity to be really good at a lot of things, your client is not sure what direction to go in.
1. How do you help this client? What resources will you use?
2. What special considerations need to be made or addressed in order to help the client?
3. How will you evaluate the results using different assessments and tools?
