I chose this topic because I am interested in the discipline intervention tools implemented by schools prior to a child making the disconnect from learning to not learning.  Given that the disconnect could be behavioral oriented, I would like to identify the tools currently in place to intercept the behavioral disconnects along with the strengths and weaknesses of those tools in place.

I believe that the Reaching the Critical Juncture for our kids article is the most critical article for the topic of research that I've selected. This article involves school discipline from the Family Court Review perspective as a level of discipline as a result of student behaviors.  The world offers so much many options and outlets that could ultimately draw the attention of today's children from learning.  With all of these options offered, the question is does the level of corrective discipline outweigh the level of negative discipline.

What is the role of the educating professionals in mitigating the risks that might impact learning?

5) Once in the Library, scroll down and click on the "Education Sources" link and type a variety of keywords in the search bar related to your topic to look for peer-reviewed articles

6) Follow the instructions in Blackboard for Week 3: Assignment 1: The Scavenger Hunt

7) You will need to look for 4 peer-reviewed articles that pertain to the approved topic and research question to get you ready to know how to conduct research. Meaning, you are going to "search for" or conduct a "scavenger hunt" for peer-reviewed articles on your topic.

9) As you print each article, make sure to have a color highlighter in hand to look for specific information, per article, to summarize individually and respectively.

For example:

A) What did the author say was his or her(1)Purpose of the research?

B) How did he or she describe the (2) Problem statement?

C) What did the author say were the (3) Gaps in the literature that studied the problem?

D) How did he or she describe the (4) Research question and/or hypotheses?

E) What specific (5) Theory or conceptual framework did the author use?

F) How did the author (6) Describe the primary research method used whether Qualitative or Quantitative?

G) What did the author say were the (7) Findings and results of the research?

Repeat the same process for each of the 4 peer-reviewed articles for Assignment 1: The Scavenger Hunt.

Attached are various handouts to use as resources.
