1. Mean, Median and Mode -- Which is Best?
Should you always report the mean, median and mode? You should already know which is appropriate for which level of measurement, and if you had to choose one, which would it be? You should also know when is the median better than the mean.
Give a good example of the use of mean/median/mode (and maybe even s.d.) using the data set you used in Assignment 1 [Dataset below] , or a recent research article. How do these stats paint a good picture of the data, that will help you make decisions? (You could also cite a particularly bad example, or post a gripping graphic....)
2. Graphing Critiques
Critique at least one of the "Example" graphs on the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) "Create a Graph" tool website. Examples include:
• U.S. Public School Student Membership
• International Per Capita Consumption of Turkey
• U.S. Average Price of Gasoline
• Percentage of Students Who Report Being Bullied at School
• Airline On-Time Statistics and Delay Causes
• Air Passenger Travel Arrivals in the United States

If you don't like these examples, supply a graph of your own you have recently seen in the press or through work and critique it.
3. Histogram Grouping
Look at how different groupings in histograms on SAT scores can lead to different conclusions through this interactive tool. (You can also choose something other than SAT scores, if it pleases you.)
Put in interval values of 10, 20, and 50 and discuss how that changes the findings. Which do you think is most appropriate and why? Would you choose different parameters depending on whether you wanted to make a point about scores being relatively uniform, or that higher scoring students are relatively unusual?
