General Description: Individual assignment is aimed at providing students an opportunity to learn how to ponder and plan. In the present research proposal students will demonstrate their academic and technical writing skills. Students will also use their research skills to write out their dissertation. They will spend time on researching and finding the best possible solution for their research. Students are expected to understand the details of project and critically review the viability and future prospects of the project.

Learning Outcome/s Assessed: This assessment tool is applicable to learning outcome 1, 2 and 3 given in the course syllabus wherein student is expected to be able to:

 Develop cognitive and analytical skills and apply it to a relevant research area.

 Demonstrate the ability to work and learn independently.

 Demonstrate the ability to design a research project and conduct it from start to finish.

 Discuss the importance of ethical conduct in research activities.

 Produce a substantial piece of academic writing in which ideas are expressed in a clear, mature and logical way and valid conclusions are drawn.

 Demonstrate the ability to deliver presentation based on own work and to handle questions and critique.

Guidelines / Instructions: Understanding the title of research proposal is a key to proceed in the right direction of research. This will help students perform preliminary work and lay the foundation of work on sound footings. The report should include the following. Title: The complete specific topic of your research approved by your instructor Table of Contents: Table of contents includes the headings in the body of the text with page numbers. Introduction: Introduction is the first part of any paper, report or presentation, hence, is very important, in helping your reader or audience to figure out what you intend to say. Introduction should include information about their project. Specify the purpose of this project along with description detailed background of the system. (Usually in 10-12 sentences). Problem Statement

What problem does your project solve? Why you are doing this project? Does the same project already exists? If yes, how will a re-implementation aid your learning? What skills do you expect to learn from this project? (Usually in 14-16 sentences) Problem Solution Briefly explain how your system solves the problems mentioned in the problem statement. (Usually in 14-16 sentences). Literature Review A description of what is already known about this area and short discussion of why the background studies are not sufficient. • Summarize what is already known about the field. Include a summary of the basic background information on the topic gleaned from your literature review (you can also include additional background information from the textbooks, class, and websites) • Discuss several critical studies that have already been done in this area • Point out why these background studies are insufficient. In other words, what question(s) do they leave unresolved that you would like to study? Specify the one question for the research. Advantages/Benefits Write down the advantages and benefits of the project. In other words, you have to mention here advantage of your proposed solution to the existing problem. (Usually in 5-7 advantages) Scope Write down the scope of your project in a paragraph. Briefly define the main area of the proposed project. Scope defines the boundaries and range of the proposed solution that what would be the part of your project and what will be not. Write down in logical flow with consistency. (Usually in 14-18 sentences) Data Gathering Approach Write down information and requirement gathering approaches for proposed project e.g. Interview, Questionnaire etc. (Usually 3-5 sentences) Conclusion It is an essential and effective part of a study provided it summarizes well the contents of your work. It is a logical deductions based on the data in the results section. To write a strong conclusion re-read the topic, major sentences and paragraphs in the body of your paper. While writing conclusion do not repeat rather reword what has been said earlier. You should be able to conclude your whole exercise in a few well- structured sentences. Bibliography / References It is the list of books, articles and reports etc you used to compile you study. You may consult the instructor for the final format of references. This section will appear at the end of your report. Complete Harvard reference document is given to students.
