Research Proposal Instructions and Guidelines
The goal of a research proposal is to present and justify the need to study a research problem and to present practical ways in which the research should be conducted. In addition to providing a rationale, a proposal describes the process for conducting the research consistent with requirements of the assignment.
You will the italicized categories outlined on page 47 in Research Matters (posted under Course Content). Please read this chapter, as it provides detailed instructions for writing the research proposal. In addition, please read the example Research Proposal (also posted under Content for this week).
The categories for the Research Proposal are as follows:
Identification: Processed foods
1. Specific Question: Why are processed foods not a healthier alternative? Why is consuming processed food bad for your health?
2. Hypothesis: while our diets consist of practically all processed food, the consumption is not beneficial to our health in the long run. Processed foods are a cheaper alternative to healthy and organic foods, yet they cause for the consumption of more food because of the active ingredients.
3. Statement of Significance: Processed foods could be a cheaper alternative for many Americans across the states, yet they consumption is not healthy nor is healthy lifestyle to pursue in the long run.
4. What I already know about my topic: I know that these foods could be easily accessible and especially for college students and working people. They are cheap compared to organic and high-end foods.
5. What I need to know about my topic (but don’t already know): I need to know how exactly how unhealthy processed foods are as consumed normally. And the effects of these foods in the long run.
6. Methods: I will be using the Walker Library database as well as trusted sources that are less than 10 years old.
