MLA Annotated Bibliography
#1) How will you take this broad topic and narrow it down into your own project?
The topic that I have chosen is Gender and Money. I will be focusing on how females and males receive different wages in the labor market - wage difference that stems from gender inequality. The gender inequality faced by women in society will be my primary focus.
#2) Talk about what you want to explore in your essay.
I want to explore how society - especially in the workforce - treats people based on their gender and the benefits or discrimination that they receive because their gender.
#3) What ideas will you look at?
#4) What do you already know about the topic?
From my understanding, gender inequality is a social problem because of culture which then causes unfair treatment in society among genders. These dissimilarities are actually distinguished from biological factors, specifically due to differing reproductive roles between males and females. Although gender is a social and cultural construction, biological factors do affect people’s perception and expectation of genders. In fact, they are what cause gender differences in the first place.
#5) What do you still need to find out?
Women are still regarded as the weaker sex and gender who, unlike men, are unable to cope with stress in a workplace. Research and statistics show that females are paid less then men. Although awareness is raised around this issue, it is still not enough to cause a difference. This issue is still going on until today.
#6) What source/s from class will you include in your essay? Talk about how you will use these
sources.
The Queen of Versailles - because in the documentary I can clearly see that Jackie Siegel is completely clueless about her husband David A. Siegel is going to lose his biggest timeshare hotel in Las Vegas, David didn’t plan to tell his wife about it.
(here I can see that in David’s eyes he doesn’t see Jackie a person that he can relied on and he is handling a the workload and stress by himself)
Death of the salesman- In this scene, the family is gathered around the dinner table and talking about Biff and Happy's possible business endeavors. This is one of the first times that Linda tries to speak up during the conversation, but is automatically shot down by Willy many times afterwards. He belittles her by telling her that she should not be involved in their business talk. During this time in history, women, for the most part, did not work, but instead were the homemakers who cooked and cleaned. Women had little or no value to the business world because they were not expected to be of any value. This way of thinking is completely old-fashioned, but during this era, it happened all the time. It took a while for people to change their ideas about gender roles in the household. Willy's old-fashioned ways of thinking can also be seen in the way he talks to and about his sons.
#7) What sources from the databases do you plan to include?
