Employee Turnover

Employee Turnover is crucial to any organization. Keeping skilled and competent employees is not an easy task for any organization. The Society of Human Resource Management states that replacing a number of efficient employees can be harmful to any organization (The Society of Human Resource Management, 2017). Not retaining qualified employees is a critical problem that would increase the turnover of any organization and the costs related to it. Moreover, it would harm the productivity and the overall performance (The Society of Human Resource Management, 2017). A study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the number of jobs held by an american is 11.9 jobs during his/her working years in America (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2017). This number differs from country to another. In Saudi Arabia, the number of jobs held by a saudi is relatively high and the government wishes to lower this number, and keep its valuable employees in the public and private sector through the 2030 vision campaign (Almadina Newspaper, 2017). Although the problem is mentioned in many Saudi newspaper, not many specific research is done on how to solve it. HSH Ltd., which struggles in its employee turnover, is a food distribution company that is located in the Eastern region in Saudi Arabia, and it supplies a variety of food product throughout the kingdom. The aim of this research is to explore the problem of employee turnover in HSH Ltd. on intent to provide solution.

Literature Review

Employee Retention implies to the ability of an organization to keep its employees. Higher rates of employee retention is needed in most organizations. The problem of employee retention is underestimated in some organizations. Leaders of organizations sometimes underestimate the issue and they end up with huge losses (Managing Employee Retention,2099). Many scholars wrote multiple articles about the seriousness of the topic. In the 2030 vision of Saudi Arabia, the government wants to focus on this issue and minimize it as soon as possible (Almadina Newspaper, 2017)

Retaining qualified employees is very efficient to any organization. On the other hand, the cost of recruiting, training, and orienting new employee is very high. Moreover, the replacement might not be of the same quality of the old employee.

Hypothesis

Employees are looking continuously to improve in their field. The more education they get, the more satisfied they are with their career.

· Providing learning courses and programs to improve the employee skillset leads to employee retention.

· Providing a clear salary and benefit structure leads to employee retention.

HSH doesn't have a clear written policy on how salaries are increased. Moreover, no bonuses are offered against extra effort done by the employee. Regularly, employees receive bonuses when the company as a whole increase net profit. It is not fear since some employees make extra effort to do their job, but that does not show in the net profit.
