Integration of New Technology – Automation and Artificial Intelligence:

As artificial intelligence and mobile finance grow, online accounting opportunities are presented for the accounting industry. “Although only some 2% of large firms have implemented machine learning or AI, about one-in-five indicate they are planning to start” (Beaver, 2021). The use of AI has been reasoned as means of addressing such issues as worker shortages, automate labor-intensive tasks and deliver more insightful data. I am curious how this changes the required skillset for accountants going forward both domestically and internationally. I would like to research what skills accountants “will need to develop to apply their expertise to information and data generated from new technology and play a role in more of the business strategy” (Beaver, 2021). I think one thing that I will need to find out like I alluded to above is if this will be the same skill set for domestic and international employees.
