Research Paper Rubric (Essay Three): Write an academic research paper with at least three scholarly and two popular sources. Propose and draft an argument related to your field of study (or a desired field of study). Defend and support your argument by citing and analyzing your selected sources. Final paper should be three and a half pages minimum; ideally this essay should be four to five pages without the Works Cited page. Essay must include all the working parts of the standard outline previously covered: introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Final essay is due Friday, December 10th at 11:59 pm via Turnitin.com and email.

I. MLA Format (10%): MLA heading and format.Works cited page with all listed sources in alphabetical order, scholarly and popular, properly cited. MLA parenthetical citations with author’s last name and page number.

II. Proposed Argument (20%): Strong central claim with rhetorical appeals at the end of introduction. The argument proposed in the prospectus paper is developed and defended by analyzing sources and restated in conclusion with ‘so what?’ application.

III. Analysis of Sources (50%): Essay includes parenthetical citations and analysis from three scholarly sources and two popular sources. Research essay develops and supports proposed argument by analyzing sources cited.

IV. Grammar & Style (20%): Proofread. Paper virtually free from grammatical and technical issues. Audience and tone is appropriate for the subject and topics discussed, no colloquialism or jargon, no second person.
