Research Paper

Your final project is a research paper, which replaces a final exam and is worth 30% of your final grade. The topic of the research paper is one of the themes in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird that we have discussed in class: literal and/or figurative racism, mockingbird symbolism, Atticus Finch as radical (or pacifist), coming of age, the female voice, etc.

This paper is to be no less than eight and no more than 10 pages long. Although I am not requiring footnotes, there must be in-text documentation and citations as well as a four-item (minimum) bibliography in MLA format (see handout); only one of these bibliography items may be a completely Internet source (with no published hard copy) and only one may be an interview. Your thesis statement for this paper is due May 7th, a first draft of this paper is due by May16th for review. The final paper is due on May 21st (23rd).
