Part 2: Research Paper (75 pts)

This 2 part writing assignment will be a research paper about an anthropological topic of your choice. 

The final paper will meet the following guidelines:

-3-5 pages of text, not including title page and bibliography (typed; double-spaced) .

This portion of the paper will present your research. Follow standard rules of college composition (double spaced, typed, Times New Roman [or a similar font], 1 inch margins). Hand your paper into the Assignments page under: Research Paper-Part 2. Your paper should include the following:

Introduction: Use this section to frame your topic from an anthropological point of view. Be sure to apply the anthropological perspective (holism, comparativism, and cultural relativism) in your presentation. Lay out two or three points that you will address in the body of the paper. 

Body: This is where you will present the bulk of your findings.  Address each of the points you presented in your introduction. Be sure to provide sources for all direct quotes and paraphrasing.

Conclusion:  Briefly restate your thesis and interpretations. Discuss future research that may add to our understanding of the topic.  Include a short section explaining what you, personally, have learned from your research project. 

Bibliography/References Cited:  Be sure to include this. Follow the rules laid out in the APA tutorial above.  If you do not include this section, your grade will be greatly diminished! 

Grading: 

75-67 (A)-Follows all instructions; the paper meets length requirements; uses appropriate sources; the paper includes APA citations for all material summarized or quoted from sources; includes a bibliography in APA style; contains no, or few, typographical, spelling, or grammatical errors; shows understanding of the topic and sources; is neatly organized and easy to read.

66-60 (B)-Follows all instructions; the paper meets length requirements; uses appropriate sources, includes APA citations for summarized and quoted material; includes an APA style bibliography; contains 5 or more typo, grammar, or spelling errors; shows understanding of the topic and sources; is neatly organized and easy to read; the paper is late

59-52 (C)-Student does not follow instructions; the paper is too short; some citations are missing; bibliography is incomplete or not in APA format; more than 5 typo, grammar, or spelling errors; the paper shows minimum understanding of the topic and sources; the paper is late

51-45(D)-Student does not follow instructions; the paper is too short; citations are missing or plagiarism is found; missing bibliography; excessive typo, grammar, or spelling errors; shows little to no understanding of topics and sources; paper is late

44-0 (F)-Student does not follow instructions; the paper is very short; the topic is not appropriate; plagiarism; missing bibliography; excessive typo, grammar, or spelling issues; paper is exceptionally late

Originality Checking:

Your paper will be checked for plagiarism and originality against a nationwide data base. An originality report will be generated highlighted any text that has already been published (student papers, websites, articles, etc.). Check your originality report after you submit your paper. Your report should show less than 20% (you may disregard quotes, titles, bibliographies, and common phrases that might be highlighted)  You may hand your paper in as many times as necessary before the deadline to achieve the desired originality report.
