Research Paper on Academic Success
We have spent the last four weeks learning about inquiry-based research, working critically with sources, searching for sources and using them correctly, and now you all have:
· A topic: Academic success
· A research question
· At least 6 sources (the five we studied together and one you found on your own). Feel free to search for other sources that you need or to use any of the sources your peers found.
Now it is time to write your first draft of your first research paper. The draft does not need an introduction and a conclusion. You might feel like it is easier to get started if you start with an introduction and it certainly it fine if you want to write one. Keep in mind, though, that we will learn more about writing introductions later, so your introduction will likely need to be revised. The main work on Draft 1 should be engaging with the sources –
· Explaining important background information that your audience will need
· Explaining key ideas, arguments, definitions etc.
· Showing the connections between the sources
· Identifying “gaps” of knowledge in the existing knowledge and addressing these gaps
· Joining the conversation which is where you develop new knowledge
Overview of due dates:
10/11: Draft 1 due. Min length: 2.5 pp. Possible points: 1-5 points.
