Abstract
The US healthcare markets have experienced a lot of changes over the years mainly due to the rapid scientific and technological evolution that has been felt especially between the 20th and 21st centuries. The discussion below focuses on various trends that is been observed, especially in the last decade. The main shift has been associated with the technological innovations and the increased use of Internet of things among the modern population in seeking certain services. The result has been better access to healthcare and a reduction in costs of seeking healthcare. Comment by Windows User: What do you mean?
Current Healthcare Trends
The world today is shifting in a dynamic way in relation to the provision of health care with the recent statistics showing that a number of factors such as the policies for example the Affordable Care Act policy and the increased use of technology among the modern populations plating significant roles in shaping up dynamics surrounding the provision of health care. This has led to the change in the trends in the healthcare system in the USA. Comment by Windows User: There is more than 1 idea on this sentence. You may need to split the information in separate sentences.
The employer support towards the employee fluctuated a little bit from 31% in 2018 to 26% in 2019. This is because of the high costs of treatment associated with the critical illness that require more specialized attention meaning that a significant amount of money would be used in their treatment an expense employers are aiming to reduce. In fact, less than 2 % of the US population normally requires specialty drugs, but they normally account for 38 % of the US prescription drug costs (Vogenberg & Santilli, 2018). This goes a long way into showing how much the drugs would cost an organization just in case the employee falls ill and decides to use the health care benefits provided by the employer. Comment by Windows User: This idea is confusing. You may need to rewrite it.
Due to the decline in the contribution of employers towards the health coverage of employees from 80% to 75%, the employees are now turning to the HDHPs as a way of insuring their health. This normally comes in form of packages offered by various companies and employers where they differ in the various benefits offered and costs (Vogenberg & Santilli, 2018). The adaptation of alternative sources of health care like the use of digital platforms has been encouraged by employers in an attempt to reduce the cost of accessing the health care by reducing the expenses incurred when visiting a doctor.
There is also the increased use of the digital technologies associated with the provision of health care. This is mainly due to the fact that more and more people are taking interest in their health and as such, there is a demand for coordinated, convenient, customizable and accessible solutions, which can only be realized by integrating the new technologies into the traditional treatment methods. Apart from the wearable devices, there are also other web based platforms that are expected to support the digitalization of medical care provision, like telehealth, which helps people to make more informed decisions based on the mode of treatment to adapt to.
There is also a vigorous campaign by organizations to promote wellness behaviors among its employees as a preventive measure to some serious diseases that might arise if unchecked in its earlier stages. Many employers have been known to offer incentives to promote certain behaviors like, regular checkups and also promotion of exercising activities through the creation of corporate fitness centers where its employees an go and do several exercise’s which at the end of the day will help prevent diabetes and other chronic diseases (Gartner, 2019). This oversaw the number of employers rewarding wellness activities from 36% in 2018 to 64% in 2019. Comment by Windows User: This idea is extremely long, so you may need to rewrite it in a clearer manner, by splitting the ideas in different sentences. There is also an increase public private partnership, which is meant to foster better health plans through the development and implementation of cheaper methods of accessing medical care. This is clearly exhibited by the increased provision of medical services by online retailers, meaning that they work hand in hand with providers in developing Software’s and other programs to ease the access to health care between individuals.
In conclusion, the government’s implementation of the Affordable Care Act has necessitated various players in the u-industry to come up with cheaper but valuable platforms of accessing health care. This has mainly been supported by the technological innovations of the modern world, which led to the development of innovative and workable healthcare plans.
