Int. Organizations - Research Paper

Using the theoretical concepts described in the first part of the class, utilize data sources from this course to analyze a chosen economic organization, or an intervention, in order to determine the impact on a state.  For any scenario you choose, you must also explain whether the organization, in your view, has been a success or a failure (or somewhere in between).  Argue your point and provide evidence, especially telling me how it has impacted your chosen state.

You must draw from the data sources of your chosen organization, which typically will have a plethora of freely accessible research reports and studies conducted by agency staff, all of which are high quality and usable in your own research reports.  Choose a single country to examine and make your argument.  You may choose one of the following organizations and associated topics:

World Bank – identify a development intervention by the World Bank, and, using data, tell me how the progress of this intervention has played out over time.  Tell me about the state of the country before the intervention, during, and if the program has ended, how the impact on development has played out since.  Use https://data.worldbank.org/ (Links to an external site)

IMF – identify a modern or historical case of a crisis situation in a country where the IMF was called on to provide assistance.  Identify the key variables of the state before, during, and after the intervention in order to demonstrate the key aspects of the outcomes of this intervention.  Use www.imf.org/en/data (Links to an external site)

WTO – take a deep dive into the trading structure and relationships of a single country.  You can tell me, for instance, about the bilateral or multilateral relationships, or the structure of trade and trade barriers, or both.  You could tell me about the key products imported and exported, tariffs, non-tariff barriers, trade in services, whatever you think will allow for a full picture of the trade of a single country.  Use https://wto.org/statistics (Links to an external site)

Keep in mind, this is a multi-part assignment requiring a synthesis of your readings, data, and new materials, centered on the effectiveness of your chosen organization.  Be sure to cover all components.

This will need to be at least 2,000 words (approximately eight pages), double-spaced, with Times New Roman 12-point font, standard margins, and using either APA or Chicago style formatting.  The eight pages will be content pages (not title pages, bibliography, graphs, data tables, etc.).

All copies of your final paper will be submitted electronically, by 11:55 PM on the due date to the Turnitin component on Canvas.  Additionally, you will provide an electronic copy to me by email (e-mail address listed above).
