Writing a Research Paper

(Individual project)

Requirement:

1. A clear topic from below, think about why this topic is important and what kinds of problem you found.

· Gender and sexuality

· Moral development, value and religion

· Families

· Peers, romantic relationship, and lifestyle

· Culture

2. Writing section: Abstract, Introduction, Purpose of research, Literature Review, Research Question, and Reference

3. 8 - 15 pages including cover page (1 page), abstract (1 page), research paper body (5-10 pages), and reference page (1-3 pages).

4. APA format, Double space, 12 pt., Time New Roman, margins are 1” on each side

Goal: be able to use resources (UH library website), identify research topic/ theme and background of the study, synthesize relevant studies, identify research question, identify APA format, and use academic writing with correct grammar. Step 2. Go to the library web, find several articles (5-10 articles) that related on the topic. Read them and keep in mind how these authors work on their research.

APA Format

Abstract (Require for this project) - Summary of your project, about 200 words.

1. Reasons for undertaking the project

2. Methods used (qualitative, quantitative, or mix-method)

3. Findings and conclusion

Introduction (Require for this project) – Introduce the research theme, background, and statement of problem

1. Summarize previous research/ studies on the topic (Tips: read the abstract carefully but skim the through the whole article)

2. Explain the problem

3. Provide general conclusion

Purpose of research (Require for this project)

1. Explain the research goal.

2. Explain why this topic is important to the discipline (why the problem or problems need to be solved/ what problem you want to figure out or what questions you want to know)

Literature Review (Require for this project) - Find 5-10 articles with the same or similar topic.

1. Summarize the articles. What theoretical perceptive and concepts were used in development of paper

2. Analysis of previous research/ studies and how these researchers investigate and explain the research problem
