Research Paper - 50 points

Select a topic related to metabolism, how they relate to signs/symptoms, progression of the condition or physiological adaptation, NOT focusing on treatment of a disease. Choose a topic that is of interest to you and you will work in groups of 5 to 6 at SB and 3 or 4 at PD. A 25- page typed (double-spaced) paper will be submitted on this topic as a group.

You must include a minimum of 10 recent journal articles (no older than the last 5 years). You may use more than 10 sources. These articles should be from scientific peer-reviewed journals with proper citations and references. Wikipedia or other online website sources that are not from refereed journals are inappropriate resources. You may read them for background information but not as a cited reference sources. I will check your paper for plagiarism.

The research paper will be graded with the following sections in mind: introduction, content (biochemical mechanism), organization, summary/conclusion, citation/references, neatness, correct grammar and spelling, etc. Integration of referenced material is very important and your paper should flow well.

The group project will be graded on how well the paper is integrated and synthesized so do not work on individual sections and expect it to flow well. Also, DO NOT USE QUOTATIONS, (if you use quotes, the paper will be given an automatic zero) AND ALSO this is not a comparative paper so do not just write a summary of each reference material, the paper should be a review of material on your topic. You may use review articles and books; but should have at least 5 original research articles. Cite your references with (author, year) format instead of the numbering system.
