RESEARCH OUTLINE SUMMARY

This is an example of what your outline should consist of:

THESIS STMT – (THIS IS THE ISSUE(S) PRESENTED) this should be a summary of the abstract in your paper (APA format), can be a few sentences long. Ex: In my paper, I will be discussing the effects of physical abuse as an adult, or emotional abuse has devastated effects on the child, even though signs may not be as apparent as neglect or physical abuse. You may want to add preventive and services measures used to address the child abuse and neglect issues; are they effect or ineffective? Etc…

PART I – PRESENT THE ISSUE(S) OR TOPIC YOU WILL BE DISCUSSING .

a. Topic sentence to introduce your issues presented ( or topic)

b. Definitions of issues and/or topic area.

c. Other issues presented in this topic area

PART II – PRESENT CASE STUDY THAT IS RELATED TO YOUR TOPIC AREA AND/OR ILLUSTRATION OF YOUR THESIS STMT (ISSUES(S) OR TOPIC)

a. Present the Case study – all facts and storyline that correlates with your thesis stmts and/or topic areas.

b. Analyze the case with the coursework concepts

c. In closing, connect your thesis stmt with the case study, which should be support with the coursework concepts.

PART III – CONCLUSION: This is where you bring it back to your original thesis stmt

a. Connect your thesis stmt (issue presented) to the case study.

b. Summarize the evidence used to support your hypothesis.

c. Provide personal commentary as to what you feel about the subject, and what things can be done to change.

NOTE: MAKE SURE ALL MATERIAL REFERENCED ARE TO BE PUT IN APA FORMAT ( WITHIN THE TEXT AND ON THE REFERENE PAGE )

NOTE: STUDENTS SHOULD NOT SUBMIT SAME PAPER THAT WAS SUBMIT FOR ANOTHERCOURSE – RESEARCH PAPER SHOULD BE SPECIFIC TO THIS COURSE – STUDENTS WILLRECEIVE NOTIFICATION AND PENALTY

The Topics for the Research Paper can include any topic discussed and examined during the semester; suchas following: -

The student must make references to case studies, readings and/or films discussed throughout thesemester – STUDENTS SHOULD REVIEW THE TEXTBOOK TOPIC OUTLINE FOR IDEASFOR RESEARCH TOPICS. HINT: STARTING WITH A CASE STUDY IS THE BEST WAY TOINCORPORATE THE COURSE MATERIAL INTO YOUR ANALYSIS OF YOUR SUBJECT.

- Students should also include their understanding of Counseling Theory

RESEARCH PAPER FORMAT:5-6 full pages doubled spaced –APA format (cover pg, abstract, citations within text for resources used, reference page- these pages are not included in the 5-6 pg requirement) APA format pamplet can be found in the library.12-inch font – Times New Roman Print 1 inch margins

Your paper MUST be in a composition format, which means you should have:

1. An Introductory paragraph(s) – this will introduce the reader to your topic (state your argument) and explainwhat you are going to be talking about

2. A body – this will be where you explain the issue and analyze the problem (elaborate on your argument andprovide supporting material) The first sentence of each paragraph should state a part of your argument, the next couple of sentences should elaborate on that point and provide support for your argument, and the last sentence should restate your point and sum up the paragraph.

3. A conclusion – this will summarize everything that you have spoken about in your paper and restate yourargument from the intro. (DO NOT INTRODUCE ANY NEW THOUGHTS)
