There are many social media which teenagers can spend their time every day. Some of them like Instagram, Facebook, and twitter is the most popular and convenient to easily connect with friends and post anything on mind. However, unmonitored Social media usage has a numerous adversity for many adolescent’s overall performance which needs serious attention of parents and schools. According to Ehmke “a few of us paying attention to how our teenagers’ use of technology-much more intense and intimate than a 3-years-old playing with dads iPhone.” Which is true for many parent’s carelessness about the young generation overall electronics use. Understanding how to adequately use the online social networking community is significant for parents and teens. According to Guinta and John Nurses have many opportunities to educate parents and teenagers about potential consequences of social use and stimulate healthy social media use. Extreme use of internet will be a major cause for mental disorder and wrong body image. It is important for parents to understand the online platforms used by their teenagers in order to combat depression, anxiety, and stress. Nowadays the major problem of many teenagers is balancing the use of social media with another daily activity such as education and time with family which needs more focus. It is important for parents and schools to take action and educate healthy use of social media for teenagers. Educating and creating opportunities for first hand research like challenge of giving up electronic device use for limited time will demonstrate the effect of overuse of social media and leads to minimize unnecessary use of the internet. Furthermore, the method of data collections is efficient since it involves the use of first-hand information.

Internet and different social media are the main tools which teenagers use to exchange information, entertain, and spend most of their time. They earn acceptance among many societies by creating easy and fast method of sending and receiving information, posting anything on mind to public, show political view points and different kind of protests. This companies make billions of dollars profit by data usage based on the number of their followers. From various types of social media and internet networking Google, Facebook, Instagram, twitter and snapchat are the most popular social media which teenagers can connect easily. These social medias can be accessible anywhere and anytime using WI-FI or mobile data. Due to accessibility and freedom to use anytime they can use more than one social media at the same time. According to Limtrakul, Nicha, et.al. from out of 317 participants the mean age of 12.5 years old who were selected from 5 to 9 grades 59% reported as multitasking media use (Limtrakul, Nicha, et.al. pp 298). Multitasking is a problem of using more than one social media at the same time. Social media has no limit of making friends around the world, so every time when teens make new friends, they will start chatting to be able to keep the friendship. However, while chatting with old and new friends to keep active friendship it will force them to use more than one social media. In fact, wise use of time is the most important factor to be able to succeed at any kind of journey. While, using multiple medias, the probability of spending maximum time is high. Social media cause problem for teenagers regarding smartphone allows them to post embarrassing picture and videos of their fellow peers and teens on social media.

Excessive internet usage leads to mental health and psychological wellbeing problems. This problem results in unlimited and unnecessary navigation of different media networks. Likewise, when using multiple social media at the same time teens will suffer from clinical depression and different health problems. According to (Guinta and John, 2018); “harmful consequences include health problems (suris et al., 2014); emotional problems, including suicide (Mok, Jorm, & Pirkis, 2015). Guinta and John clearly states the effect of over usage of social media on teens health. Specially, turning bed time to social media use has a great possibility of experiencing poor mental health, and low problem-solving ability. Inappropriate social media is a reason for many adolescent’s low educational achievement. Consequently, when adolescents spend most of their time using social media leads to less focus on their study. According to Guinta and John, 2018, since many teens stay busy responding text messages and exploring social media, school no longer appears to be a priority, and their grade are falling. Whenever they failed to keep up with homework study, they achieve poor. According to Morin, 2018, lots of troubled teens which failed to handle the pressure of school with internet use result in dropping out high school. Which is true when it comes to school dropout, many teens leaving school without joining college to develop future carrier skills. Accordingly, just because of not want to deal with many school work, they are searching temporary job then hangout with friends and navigate the internet world with no pressure

In order to keep up with in coming message, exploring entertainment, making new friends, and covering given homework teenagers go to bed late night and get up early morning to go school. Indeed, they do not get enough sleep which leads to abnormal function and tough health problem. In addition, night time social media use has strongly linked to poor sleep quality. Obviously, watching some medias which will take their attention to deep feeling and anger will create hard time to felt asleep easily at bed time. According to Woods and Scott, mean value of 1.97 participants who use social media at bed time, 35% categorized as poor sleepers, also they mentioned that the incoming alert during sleep has adverse effect on sleep. Furthermore, the unstable sleep cycle and improper social media usage will generate various health problems, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, obesity, internet addiction and suicide. While teenagers spend huge amount of their time, they cannot keep up with normal life schedule, which force them to sad feeling because of uncovered school works. According to Limtrakul, Nicha, et.al. 2018; “the average total media exposure among 8-18 years old in 2009 from the USA was reported to be 10.45h/day use.” Also, profile feedback, incoming message from their friends’ huge adverse effect for low self-esteem and anxiety. Excessive time spent on social media leads to lack of physical activity which is the main consequence of obesity. (Needs citation). Another challenge of excessive use of internet includes cyberbullying, drug and alcohol use and internet addiction. Cyberbullying is a practice of electronic communication to bully someone, normally by transferring messages of an intimidating or type of threatening. According to Guinta and John, 2018; many adolescents are a victim by frequent harm of spreading sensitive information online. Electronic bullying is affecting a lot of teens which leads to suicide and low self-worthiness. Moreover, alcohol and drug addiction are another problem teenager learning from internet at their early age.

The availability of electronic devices like computer, video games and tablets are basic access to anytime internet use. Notably, now days the development of new technology made easy to get things. Brought of Smart phone and tablet technology created better access for convenience for everyone in the family. According to Limtrakul, Nicha, et.al. 2018, “currently, traditional media (television) and new form of media, including video games, computers, tablets and mobile phones are readily available to children and adolescents in their daily lives. clearly, every family member has smartphone, laptop and tablet nowadays regardless of it is cheap or expensive, in order to keep up with the technology. Teens are always eager to play video games and chat with friends more than doing their homework or spending time by accomplishment something more important, like reading fictions, listening to music and relaxing. According to Ehmke, Rachel, 2019; even worst scenario 3 years old babies are not restricted from playing such devices like cell phone. The freedom of availability for such devices without any limitation created tough situation to focus on most important issues like building future carrier skills and social interaction. Besides of that, modern teens are learning to do most of their communication while looking at screen, not on another person. Based on, Good Morning America, 2019; many teens use social media as a stress relief which create lack of willing to make face to face conversation. Staking and being ignored when the internet connection lost result depression and anxiety because they think they will miss incoming message.

Electronic communication of nude images, videos, and sharing personal data remains principal issue which leads to psychological and physical attack. Since parents have no control on teenager’s social media usage, many of them has access to watch and share age restricted pictures and videos. According to Morin, “based on the 2015 youth risk behavior surveillance data, 41 percent of high school students reported being sexually active.” Also, based on Morin’s 2018, study “20 million new sexual transmitted disease each year, more than half were among young people between the age of 15 and 24.” As Morin explain many teens are sexually active and they are a victim of different sexually transmitted disease. Viewing different content including nude pictures and videos force them to practice sexual activities. More importantly, peer pressure is the serious issue among many adolescents. Posting embarrassing picture of others remain adverse effect on teens life. According to Morin, 2018 “many teens do not understand the life long consequences that sharing explicit photos can have on the lives. sharing others sensitive information result a huge effect on their life including suicide and disconnecting themselves from their peers.

Educating teenagers about online experiences can assist to decrease any negative impact on their mental health and wellbeing. Parents should monitor and develop proper social media and different electronic use for their children’s. According to Ehmke, 2019; parents should be a good example of what health use of electronic device look like and minimize their own consumption. Most of the time teenagers copy what their parents practice of every day, which means starting their early age they are devoted to follow and learn their elders’ habit. Moreover, parents should know how to strike a conversation with their teens in a good way about uncomfortable situations like drug, alcohol, and sexual activities. According to Limtrakul, Nicha, et.al. 2018; “parents are encouraged to monitor and control the content of media use by their children’s, as well as to encourage them to spend time with creative and developmentally appropriate activities, such as sport, arts and music.” Parents have a huge responsibility to monitor what kind of social media their teens using, and they should learn about new medias to be able to have awareness about what is the benefit of that media for their teens. Finally, Acording to Guinta and John, “nurses are in a prime position to assist adolescents and their families to comprehend the complexities of social media use and promote healthy habit and encourage the adoption of family media use plan.” Nurses have many chances to educate teenagers and their families about potential effect of social media and promote healthy social media practice.

Adolescents who spend less time on internet have higher life satisfaction, higher academic success, and good problem-solving ability. When teens spend fewer time on social media develop proper concentration to do things. Since they do not spend much time on internet, they have pliantly of time to do necessary things like listening to music, relax, physical activities and school work on time. Therefore, schools, and nurses should prepare a group challenge to give-up or minimize the use of social media for teenagers. according to Good Morning America a group of teenagers are challenged to give up the use of any kind of device for seven days. The teenagers were shocked when they hear about giving up the use of the internet for several days. However, the end of the challenge was in a great result which, most of them created enough time to spend time with their parents and doing things they love to do normally, like listening to music. Also, some of the participants of the challenge started to give-up social media usage voluntarily.
