Research Draft One Assignment Instructions
Begin this assignment by reviewing each of the questions/prompts below and provide as much detail as possible for each. Submit this Word document with each your completed answers directly after each question/prompt.
Remember, instructor feedback will be essential in helping you refine and revise your work for subsequent drafts however, the utility of feedback is usually a reflection of the effort within the work that was submitted. Hence, the more detail and information you provide, the better the feedback your instructor can provide.
1. Research Topic: (Building on what you posted in your first Discussion Thread, state the main topic, subject or idea for your research. Attempt to state your topic as specific as you are currently thinking about it. If your topic is still very broad, that is okay, it will give me an idea of where you are in this process. Look at titles of published research studies for ideas on how to appropriately phrase your topic in the form of a working title.)
2. What have other scientific studies found about topics you are interested in? (After searching the Library’s online databases (hopefully utilizing the keywords you posted in DB2), list the references (in APA format) of a minimum of two peer-reviewed studies that you found about your topic or closely related to your topic. Below each reference, copy/paste the abstract of the associated article. Remember, you may not find published studies on your exact topic but, with enough searching, you will find studies related to your topic. If you feel that you cannot find anything published about your topic (or related to it) you may be asked to prove that nothing has been published on your topic.)
3. Is this topic worthy of research? Who cares? (In this section, describe why you think this is an important topic to study. On what do you base this perspective? Incorporate each of the ‘goodness’ criteria such as interesting, plausible, ethical, manageable, & valuable, in your answer.)
4. How can I use this knowledge? OR Where can this knowledge be applied? (In this section, please do your best to consider the application of studying your topic and provide a brief description. Even if you are considering basic research, tell me how the outcomes from this study might be used.)
5. Can I articulate what the problem is? (In this section, please attempt to state your research topic in the form of a research problem, that is, in one or two sentences. To begin, ask yourself; what is the key issue/challenge/concern that could be solved by conducting this proposed research?)
6. Identify Stakeholders for your research topic: (For this section, list the names or titles of as many stakeholders you can think of, based on your topic.)
7. Identify the basics: (At this stage of the process (even though it may change) tell me whether your research proposal will be: a) applied or basic research, b) descriptive, explanatory, or predictive research, and will include c) primary or secondary data sources.
