I believe that simple random sampling will be appropriate for conducting a public opinion poll. A simple random sampling is a type of probability sampling where the researcher randomly chooses a subset of research participants from a population (Latpate et al., 2021). This means that every member has an equal chance of being selected.
A simple random sampling will be appropriate for conducting the public opinion poll because it is an unbiased approach to gather responses from the larger population. And as we all know; a biased sample might result in an incorrect conclusion about the entire population. A simple random sampling is also accurate and simple to use. However, it is very difficult to achieve in terms of money, effort, time. According to the background information, Mayor Taylor has strong support in the business community, and his campaign has raised a huge amount of money for his reelection bid. Which means that the mayor can raise the capital needed to conduct simple random sampling. To achieve the best results, Mayor Taylor will need to follow these four steps:
· Define the population: The mayor must ensure he has access to each individual of the population so that he can collect data from everyone who is selected for the sample.
· Decide on the sample size: Mayor Taylor will need to decide how big or small the sample size will be.
· Select the sample: The mayor can use either the random number method or the lotter method to select the sample.
· Collect data from the sample: To ensure the validity of the findings, every individual selected should participate in the study.
