Provide a one or two paragraph introduction to the concept paper. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The “Foundation of the Study” paragraph should contain a brief introduction of 250 words or less to include the following: the problem, the purpose, and it’s contribution to your DBA cognate. The length of each paragraph should be a least four to seven sentences.

Problem Statement Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The problem statement should be a single paragraph <250 words. The general problem sentence must be an overarching problem clearly related to the candidate's degree/cognate. The first sentence must begin with, "The general problem to be addressed is...(insert problem)", and include consequences that arise from the problem, "... resulting in... (insert the consequences of the problem)". *Do not state the cause of the problem. Only state what the problem is and one or two consequences of not addressing the problem. Include three support sentences to support your general problem statement. Each one should demonstrate that a problem exists. Do not focus on providing a solution. Focus on the problem only. The goal is to demonstrate that a problem exists and the consequences of not addressing the problem. The problem statement must end with "The specific problem to be addressed is the potential (insert narrowly focused problem)... within the selected single case study organization possibly resulting in…(insert potential consequences of the problem)". Specific Problem Statement Example: The specific problem to be addressed is the potential challenges leaders in the retail industry within the selected single case organization face gaining employee support for new product development initiatives resulting in the possible inability of the organization to carry out critical product line changes. Identify an organization type or industry in the specific problem statement. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Your problem statement paragraph should consist of the following in paragraph form. The problem statement [no citation] Supporting sentence one w/citation <5 years from the anticipated graduation date. Supporting sentence two w/citation <5 years from the anticipated graduation date. Supporting sentence three w/citation <5 years from the anticipated graduation date. The specific problem statement [no citation] Please ensure your problem statement support sentences align with your general problem statement. Focus on the problem and the consequence(s) of not addressing the problem stated in the problem statement sentence. Refrain from providing background on the problem, solving the problem, or providing recommendations on how to solve the problem. The goal of the problem statement is to demonstrate that the problem exists and because of the problem, consequences are happening. Keep the three support statements to one sentence in length. You can combine your shorter support statements into one larger sentence <40 words for each consequence of not addressing the problem. ------------------------------- The first support sentence should demonstrate the problem is occurring resulting in X. The second support sentence should demonstrate the problem is occurring resulting in X. The third support sentence should demonstrate the problem is occurring resulting in X. The consequences of not addressing the problem should be stated at the end of each support sentence and align with the problem statement. For example, if you list three consequences of not addressing the problem, demonstrate the X is occurring in the first support statement, y is occurring in the second, and z is occurring in the third. *Stay within the scope of your problem statement. Do not introduce additional topics related to the problem or consequences of not addressing the problem.

The problem statement should be clear and concise and presented in a single paragraph with less than 250 words. Only primary scholarly sources published within 5 years of your anticipated graduation date may be used in this section. The first sentence must begin with, “The general problem to be addressed is... (insert problem)”, and include consequences that arise from the problem, “... resulting in... (insert the consequences of the problem)”. The general problem sentence must be an overarching problem clearly related to the candidate’s degree/cognate that can be proven to exist based on multiple current (within five years) sources from the literature. The consequences should provide a broad but clear statement regarding the negative outcomes that result from the existence of the general problem. (i.e., The general problem to be addressed is the challenges leaders face gaining employee support for new initiatives resulting in the inability of organizations to make critical changes.) Next, the researcher will provide current literature support for the assertions made in the general problem sentence from primary scholarly sources published within five years of your anticipated graduation date. The candidate must demonstrate that the problem does exist supported by scholarly sources. Refrain from providing background on the problem, solving the problem, or providing recommendations on how to solve the problem. The goal of the problem statement is to demonstrate that the problem exists and because of the problem, consequences are happening. (i.e., Smith (2024) stated that many high-level leaders struggle with effectively projecting an engaging vision for a new initiative which makes it difficult to gain employee buy-in.) The problem statement must end with, “The specific problem to be addressed is the potential (insert narrowly focused problem) ... within the selected single case study organization possibly resulting in… (insert potential consequences of the problem)”. The specific problem sentence must be a narrowly focused subset of the general problem that is practical to study within the constraints of the program. It is important to note that the specific problem might not have been demonstrated to exist in the narrowly focused area. Using words like possible or potential in the specific problem sentence helps avoid bias. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The general problem sentence must be an overarching problem clearly related to the candidate’s degree/cognate. Here is some additional guidance on specific problem statement development. The specific problem sentence must mirror the general problem statement with the following exceptions: It must be a narrowly focused subset of the general problem that is practical to study within the constraints of the program. It is important to note that the specific problem might not have been demonstrated to exist in the narrowly focused area. Using words like possible or potential in the specific problem sentence helps avoid bias. General Problem Statement Example: The general problem to be addressed is the challenges leaders face gaining employee support for new initiatives resulting in the inability of organizations to make critical changes Specific Problem Statement Example: The specific problem to be addressed is the potential challenges leaders in the retail industry within the selected single case organization face gaining employee support for new product development initiatives resulting in the possible inability of the organization to carry out critical product line changes. The verbiage "within the selected single case organization" must be included. *Words bolded for emphasis only. Identify the specific organization (if known) or industry, i.e., financial sector. If you do not have an organization in mind at this time, what industry sector are you targeting, i.e., finance, manufacturing, or service? *The results of not addressing the problem should be the same in both problem statements.

Specific Problem Statement Example: The specific problem to be addressed is the possible challenges leaders in the retail industry within the selected single case organization face gaining employee support for new product development initiatives resulting in the possible inability of the organization to carry out critical product line changes. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Do not use this instructional text in your paper. It was used as instructional text to show you how to develop your specific problem statement.

Relationship to Leadership (DSL) or Degree Related Cognate (DBA) (Not part of the problem statement.) Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Explain how your study is related to your cognate and degree in one sentence <40 words. Begin with “This proposed research concept is related to the [identify cognate here] cognate because it focuses on…..” Do not forget to identify your cognate, i.e., leadership, supply chain management, logistics, healthcare management, etc. Do not use a heading here. This is exempt from the following guidance: paragraphs should be at least four to seven sentences in length.

Purpose Statement Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Your purpose statement should clearly state the intent/focus of your study and how it will fill a knowledge gap in <250 words. Please ensure you discuss the specific design, e.g., qualitative single-case study. Your purpose statement must align with your problem statement, problem statement support sentences and cognate. Do not stray from your research focus by adding additional topics not directly related to your proposed project. Begin with the phrase “The purpose of this qualitative single case study is to…” Use descriptive words such as “explore” or “understand.” Provide citations <5 years for any factual assertions in this section. Annotations are not required for this section.

The purpose statement clearly describes the intent/focus of the study. Simply put, the purpose of the study is to extend the current body of knowledge to a specific context identified in the general and specific problems through answering the research question and sub-questions. The research project will essentially fill a gap where knowledge is missing. The study must rest solidly on the foundation provided by the existing body of knowledge and be clearly connected to it.

The purpose statement should be a single paragraph with less than 250 words and should include the specific design of study (i.e., qualitative single case study) being conducted. The purpose statement should include descriptive words such as “explore” or “understand.” The purpose statement must begin with, “The purpose of this qualitative single case study is to...”.

Research Question and Sub-questions Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Write one main RQ derived from the problem and purpose statements followed by three sub-questions. Limit your sub-questions to three. The main question should sound similar to the general problem statement. The main RQ should identify a problem to be solved or how a practice can be improved (one or the other). The first sub-question could address why or to what extent the problem is occurring. *Hint: Align this question with the first problem statement support sentence. The second sub-question could address what actions or strategies might be taken to prevent the problem. *Hint: Align this question with the second problem statement support sentence. The third sub-question could address the role of leadership in addressing the problem. *Hint: Align this question with the third problem statement support sentence. *Sub-questions are optional. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The research question(s) should align with your problem statement and supporting sentences.

Research questions form the basis of inquiry for the study and are used to guide the researcher in addressing the problem statement. Research questions guide in the choice of methodology for the study. Qualitative research questions are those that seek to understand or explain while quantitative research questions seek to relate or measure.

Begin with a paragraph of less than 250 words that introduces the research question and sub-questions and relates them in general to the problem being studied. There is only one main research question. The research question may have sub-questions to be explored (no more than 3). The questions should be designed to solicit in-depth answers rather than a yes/no.

For the purposes of the ADRP, the central research question must follow one of the two formats:

· How can the problem of (identify the problem) be solved?

· How can (practice or issue) be improved?

The research question is well-developed when it satisfies the following criteria:

· The research question is derived from the problem and purpose statements.

· The research question follows one of the two formats provided above.

RQ (Main Question)

RQa. (Sub-question)

RQb. (Sub-question)

RQc. (Sub-question)

Following the list of research questions, provide a detailed discussion of how each question directly addresses an element of the problem being studied. Then, discuss how, taken together, they completely address the specific problem being studied. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Provide a detailed discussion of how each question directly addresses an element of the problem being studied in no less than 250 words for the entire section, not for each RQ. The total word count can be longer if required, not it is not necessary. Please ensure you differentiate the discussion between each question, e.g., "The first sub-question explores...," "The second sub-question examines..." *Sub-questions are optional. Ensure each RQ and sub-RQ includes peer-reviewed support <5 years. Include at least two different citations for each RQ and sub-RQ discussion. Provide multiple, diverse sources for your supporting narrative <5 years. The following only applies if there are sub-questions. You can use a separate paragraph for each RQ (main and sub-RQs) or write a single paragraph as long as it is at least 250 words. If you choose to write separate paragraphs, each one should be a minimum of 4-7 sentences in length. Lastly, in a short paragraph (4-7 sentences), discuss how taken together, each research question addresses the specific problem being studied. Include at least one citation <5 years. “Taken together, the research questions and sub-questions address the specific problem of …..by….”

Research Question Related to the Specific Problem Statement Example : Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Delete this text. The example used in the paper template was for demonstration purposes only to show how the candidate should align each RQ and sub-RQ to the problem statements.

Specific Problem Statement Example: The specific problem to be addressed is the possible challenges leaders in the retail industry within the selected single-case organization face, gaining employee support for new product development initiatives resulting in the possible inability of the organization to carry out critical product line changes.

Research Question Example: How can the problem of lacking employee support be improved?

Methodology Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Introductory Paragraph *Do not mention specific study topics by name in your introductory paragraph (see template, p. 4). Provide one short paragraph <250 words introducing what will be discussed in the section. You do not want to give personal opinions, provide definitions, or discuss the topics. You want to provide a generic discussion of what will be discussed. You should start off with the following: This study will utilize a flexible design using qualitative methods, specifically, a single case study design will be used. In general terms, state that you will briefly discuss the following: Why a flexible design in the best approach. How the data will be collected, e.g., in-depth interviews with a minimum of 12 participants. The use of triangulation to augment and validate the study. Mention that you will provide an example of how a similar study was used.

Provide one paragraph introducing what will be discussed in the section. You do not want to give personal opinions, provide definitions, or discuss the topics.

Discussion of Research Design Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Discussion of Research Design Begin with “This study will utilize a flexible design.” Provide a detailed discussion in no less than 250 words with citations <5 years. ----------------------------------- Research Design Discuss the following in this section: Why this is the most appropriate design for your study. The advantages and disadvantages of a flexible, qualitative design. One advantage is the ability to offer detailed insights into participants’ experiences and emotions to explore a complex phenomena. Disadvantages include potential researcher bias and lack of generalizability. The framework that defines both the structure and study approach (conceptual). The objectives that clarify the research goals. This includes the purpose (solving a problem or improving a process, structure, and planning.

Discuss flexible designs using scholarly research and what types of research flexible designs are best suited to study. Please note that textbooks are not considered scholarly sources. Discuss the appropriateness of a flexible design for your study.

Discussion of Research Method Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Research Methods identify specific techniques and procedures to collect and analyze data. Provide a detailed discussion in no less than 250 words with citations <5 years. Begin with “ This study will utilize a flexible design using qualitative methods, specifically, a single case study will be used. Discuss the follow in this section: The single case study. The advantages and disadvantages of this approach. Advantages include the ability to provide in-depth insights into a specific phenomenon to explore complex issues in a real-world context. Disadvantages include lack of scientific rigor, potential researcher bias, and the lack of generalizing findings to a larger population. The participant selection that determines how the participants will be chosen, e.g., purposive sampling. The techniques used such as in-depth interviews to obtain the data. For example: "In-depth interviews with a minimum of 12 participants within a single organization will be conducted to determine the causes of X, which results in Y, in the Z sector. "X" could be the failure of leadership training initiatives, "Y" could be poor employee retention, and "Z" would be the selected organization. Briefly discuss methodological triangulation and why it is used, e.g., document analysis, archival data, focus groups, descriptive statistics (categorical). One sentence is sufficient. For example: At a minimum, two forms of methodological triangulation will be used, e.g., document analysis, archival data, focus groups, etc. to reduce bias while increasing credibility and reliability of the study. *Please note that you cannot state that the interviews you plan to conduct will be used for triangulation because you cannot triangulate the data against itself. Briefly discuss the data analysis for interpreting the data, e.g., qualitative software like Nvivo or others for transcribed interviews used to code the data. Provide an example of a similar case related to your study topic.

The ADRP is limited to a flexible qualitative single case study design only. Discuss the appropriateness of using a qualitative single case study and what types of research are best suited for this style of study.

Summary Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Revise your summary based on changes made to the "Methodology" section.

The summary is a brief overview of what was discussed in the section. New information should not be provided.

Research Framework Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Your diagram must include all the elements found in the framework discussion section, including all concepts, actors, and constructs. Please identify which elements are your concepts, actors, and constructs in your framework diagram. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): To ensure conciseness, please limit your discussion of each element to no more than four sentences in a single paragraph with a minimum of two different citations <5 years. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): BUSI 885 was revised to exclude the need to discuss theory in your qualitative study. However, if you feel it is critical, you must ensure it aligns with your problem and study focus. It will need to be developed throughout the entire document, including the research framework diagram and framework element discussion paragraphs in Task #3. Additionally, this will add a significant amount of additional work to your project, including BUSI 887-890. That said, it is recommended that you leave out any discussion of theory.

Include an introductory paragraph to the research framework section. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): You will use constructs, not independent or dependent variables. Qualitative studies will utilize nominal and ordinal variables in descriptive statistics for triangulation purposes only.

Research Framework Diagram Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please identify which elements are your concepts, actors, and constructs in your framework diagram. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): I included some sample frameworks to show you how they should be organized but please ignore the theory portion since these are used as examples in both BUSI 885 and BUSI 886. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The level four headings in your research framework outline discussion must match the text in your research framework title boxes. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please ensure all concept, actor, and construct elements match your framework diagram titles verbatim.

The diagram must include all the elements found in the framework listed below. Provide a diagram showing all elements of the framework and flow of information, action, and ideas that lead to outcomes.

Concepts Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Use a brief descriptor (4-7 words) for your concept heading to describe each concept. Apply this to the remaining concepts only. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): This is a qualitative study. You will use constructs, not variables as the primary focus of your research. Some quantitative data may be used in methodological triangulation supplementing the main study. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please include three concepts, two actors, and three constructs in your paper (see template). Use multiple scholarly references <5 years.

The concept conveys the relationship that is central to the problem. The concept should be discovered through researching peer-reviewed literature regarding your specific problem. After researching the literature, describe how the concept is related to the specific problem using peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Lead with a descriptor (short name for the concept), and then three to four sentences that describe how the concept is related to the specific problem. Include scholarly support for each assertion. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please ensure each discussion is one paragraph, three to four sentences in length with two citations <5 years. Please keep it concise. Ensure you relate how each element in the concepts, actors, and constructs category is related to the problem and the consequence if not addressed. *Focus on the problem, not the solution. The last supporting sentence (third or fourth) for each framework element in each category, i.e., concepts, actors, and constructs, should discuss the possible consequences of not addressing the problem. Use words like “possible,” “potential”, “might,” “could,” “can,” etc. to align with your specific problem statement. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Format your element discussion paragraphs as shown in this first example.

Concept Name. Discuss how the concept is related to the crux of the problem using multiple scholarly sources.

Concept Name. Discuss how the concept is related to the crux of the problem using multiple scholarly sources.

Concept Name. Discuss how the concept is related to the crux of the problem using multiple scholarly sources.

Actors Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): The actors listed should be from the same organization where you will conduct a minimum of 12 in-person interviews.

The actors will be your participants. Research the actors in the peer-reviewed literature regarding your specific problem. After reviewing the literature, describe how the actor is related to the specific problem using peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Lead with a descriptor and then three to four sentences that describe how the actor is related to the specific problem.

Actor Name. Discuss how the actor is related to the crux of the problem using scholarly sources.

Actor Name. Discuss how the actor is related to the crux of the problem using scholarly sources.

Constructs

The constructs should be discovered by researching peer-reviewed literature regarding your specific problem. After reviewing the literature, describe how the construct is related to the specific problem using peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Lead with a descriptor and then three to four sentences that describe how each construct is related to the specific problem.

Construct Name. Discuss how the construct is related to the crux of the problem using scholarly sources.

Construct Name. Discuss how the construct is related to the crux of the problem using scholarly sources.

Construct Name. Discuss how the construct is related to the crux of the problem using scholarly sources.

Relationships Between Concepts, Actors, and Constructs Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Provide a detailed discussion of the interaction and flow of information between the elements of your research framework in a single paragraph of 250 words or less. Include all framework elements (concepts, actors, and constructs) by name. Please ensure you use citations <5 years. You can use the ones from the framework discussions in the appropriate locations. Refer to the figure in this paragraph, e.g., Figure 1 illustrates…”

Provide a detailed discussion of the interaction and flow of information and action between the elements of the research framework.

Summary of the Research Framework

The summary is a brief overview of what was discussed in the section. New information should not be provided.

Potential Research Location

Begin this section with an introductory paragraph of less than 250 words that provides an overview of the section. Provide appropriate sub-headings. Develop a list of potential industries, markets, regions, or organizations where your qualitative single case study could be conducted. Explain how and why this is a good choice. Include appropriate citations for all factual assertions.

Summary of Potential Research Locations

The summary is a brief overview of what was discussed in the section. New information should not be provided.

Biblical Perspective on Research Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Depending on how you phrase your text, use either a narrative or parenthetical citation but not both, just as you would any other citation. However, book titles, e.g., the Bible, are italicized. Jesus teaches his followers to "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (New International Version, 1973/2005, Matthew 5:16). Jesus speaking in the Book of Matthew 5:16, New International Version (1973/2005), teaches followers to "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." I prefer the first version to the second, but both should be correct. When using multiple citations from the same biblical source within a single paragraph, format the citations as shown above for the first one and use the book, chapter, and verse format for subsequent citations within the same paragraph. Repeat this format for succeeding paragraphs. The following are samples of correctly formatted biblical citations/references. Narrative citation: King James Bible (1769/2017) Parenthetical citation: (King James Bible, 1769/2017, Song of Solomon 8:6) Reference entry: King James Bible. (2017). King James Bible Online. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/ (Original work published 1769) Rikkers, D. (2002). The Scofield Study Bible III, NKJV. Oxford University Press, USA. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Follow the formatting guidance above for the initial biblical citation in each new paragraph.

Provide an introductory paragraph explaining what will be discussed in this section.

Conducting Business Research from a Biblical Perspective Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Provide biblical references in this section. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): This section be a minimum of 300 words. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please link your biblical citations with business-related secular peer-reviewed sources in this section.

In a minimum of 300 words, provide a clear connection between Biblical principles and the concepts chosen for your study. Include specific examples and references from Scripture. Support all assertions, including those about the Bible, with scholarly sources from within five years of your anticipated graduation year.

Personal Perspective Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): This section be a minimum of 300 words.

In a minimum of 300 words, provide a detailed discussion of how your research, in particular, will fulfill this requirement and integrate a Christian worldview. Be sure to include specific scripture references that illustrate the relationships.

Summary of Biblical Perspectives on Research

Provide a summary paragraph highlighting key information in this section.

Conclusion

Provide a 300-to-500-word summary of the research concepts, location, and biblical perspective.

References Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please ensure you include sufficient peer-reviewed support for each task to strengthen your arguments. Do not recycle previous sources in other sections, except when necessary to support your argument. Continue to add new sources to each task assignment to provide diverse views from multiple scholars which strengthens your position. There should be at least 3-4 pages of peer-reviewed sources listed in the reference section to demonstrate academic rigor in the final research concept paper.

References will be formatted using the current APA style. Ensure all DOIs or journal URLs are active hyperlinks.

ALL CAPS, NO MORE THAN 50 CHARACTERS 20

Appendix A: Annotated Bibliography Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): In Appendix A, provide an annotation for each peer-reviewed source from your problem statement paragraph. Each annotation should be a minimum of 200 words. Please review the guide, p. 8. Comment by Havrilko, Vincent R (School of Business): Please remove any annotations not used in your problem statement support sentences. Include annotations for the problem statement supporting sentences only. *In Appendix A, you will provide an annotated bibliography for each reference provided in the problem statement. Please refer to the guide, p. 8). You will provide additional references as you build your research concept paper, but no annotations beyond the sources for your problem statement support sentences. In other words, your reference list will grow, but your annotated bibliography will not.

An annotated bibliography in APA 7th edition includes two main components for each source: the reference citation and the annotation (200 words for each reference). Below are the guidelines on how to properly format an annotated bibliography in APA style. Make sure to put your references in alphabetical order.

· Start your entries on the left margin. Properly cite the source in APA format.

· Use a hanging indent for each reference entry (the first line is flush left, and subsequent lines are indented 0.5 inches)

· The annotation should be indented 0.5 inches from the left margin (same as a block quote.

Author, A. A. (Year). Title of the article. Name of the Periodical, volume(issue), #-#, https://doi.org/xxxx

This is where you summarize and evaluate the source. Discuss the main points, relevance to your research, and any strengths or weaknesses of the work. Provide a description of why this is a credible source. Discuss how this reference supports the existence of the general problem, and the consequences of the problem identified in the general problem sentence.
