ResearchBlogReflection.pdf

Due Date: Sunday, October 9th by 11:59pm

Note: This reflection is a significant part of your Research Blog project grade. It is not a normal homework assignment, but instead will make up 40% of your Unit 2 project grade, as described on the assignment sheet. As such, it's important to take your time to think about your response and organize it, submitting a polished document.

Task: You will write a reflection that is at least 400 words and focuses on two main areas: a) a revised statement of research and b) changes in your thinking related to research. Below I've provided guiding questions to help you write an effective reflection, but you do not have to answer every question and you should not answer it in bullet form. Instead, write the reflection like an essay.

• First, choose what main ideas resonate with you, then write paragraphs for those ideas. Include topic sentences (main ideas) and give examples to support your topics.

• Then, make sure you have an introduction that helps guide the reader to understanding the most important ideas of your reflection.

• Proofread the entire reflection. Make sure you've answered the questions and that your reflection matches the criteria laid out in the rubric below.

Guiding Questions: 1. In at least 250 words, consider the research you’ve done and write a revised

statement of your research. Specifically, in this section of your reflection, discuss your understanding of your topic now that you've spent some time researching the topic. For example: ◦ What were you curious about when you looked into this topic and why did

it interest you? What did you want to investigate? Now that you've done a good bit of research, in your opinion, why should people care about this issue?

◦ Look at the conversation as a whole. Now that you've read about the topic, what background information do readers need in order to follow the conversation you are writing about? What are the various viewpoints in this conversation? On what points do your sources generally agree or disagree?

◦ What do you now understand about the larger conversation surrounding this topic as a result of listening to various voices and perspectives?

◦ How would you answer your research question at this point? Who might disagree with that answer? How might you address those objections? Is there anything that you would like to learn more about before coming up with your final answer?

2. In at least 150 words explain how your thinking changed throughout this project. ◦ How did your ideas on your topic shift and change?

▪ What are some of the misconceptions you had about your topic before beginning? Or, what did you not understand about your topic before beginning this research? How have your opinions, thoughts, feelings, understandings, of the topic shifted throughout this process?

◦ How did your ideas about research shift or change? ▪ Is there anything about the way you conducted your research or

the kinds of sources you found that is different from the way you've conducted research in the past?

▪ What are some of the research methods that you used for this project that you found particularly effective/ineffective?
