[Note. The Research Prospectus is a significant milestone in the journey toward your CTU dissertation research study. A Research Prospectus declared satisfactory in RSCH861 demonstrates your achievement of a viable research problem and alignment of the research method choice, problem, purpose, and research question. Your Research Prospectus will be declared satisfactory when your instructor has deemed all criteria on the Research Prospectus Evaluation Rubric as “Met.” This will enable you to pass the RSCH861 course. Note that the Research Prospectus document is regarded as a work in progress and some content may be subject to additional revisions as the proposal/dissertation process continues.]

Introduction

[The Research Prospectus is double-spaced throughout with Level 1 headers for each required section. The Abstract, References, and any appendices headers (known as front and back matter in scholarly publishing) also use a Level 1 header. The Research Prospectus begins with an introduction to the study problem that includes enough background information and term definitions for the reader to understand the problem statement and all key terms used within the study problem. Remember the proposed study is first introduced in the study purpose below and not in the introduction as this is an introduction to the study problem. The introduction is no longer than 2 pages.]

Study Problem

The problem is due to home and work-life balance has caused employees burnout which has negatively impacted the organizational performance. As a low-level performance, employees have missed deadlines that were supposed to be delivered along with tasks, numerous employees have reached a level of anxieties, stressed simply because they are unable to manage between home and work life (HWL), and the assumptions that people can multitask and power through their assignments all contribute to burnout (Garton) 2017. In recent data, executives do have the opportunity to alleviate time management with a reduction of at least 20%. To be able to control home and work-life balance employees must be able to control their health as it can cause a problem deteriorating over time demands has increased the stress levels, to avoid low performance which can result in low productivity, we must be able to create a happy environment, balance, don’t expect unrealistic expectation (Ahmed) 2020. People who lack work-life balance suffer from personal relationships and family conflicts, which negatively impact their commitment to work and productivity, which is a loss for both the organization and the employee (Gorjifard & Crawford, 2021). However, the implementation of the work from home also hurts the employees' performance, where employees who work at home spend more time or do not have a proportional percentage of their time in carrying out family and work responsibilities Weerasinghe, T., &Jayawardana, A. (2019).

In conclusion, management’s attitude, and methods towards developing a culture that promotes workers’ work-life balance are crucial elements (Elnanto & Suharti, 2021). Leaders should foster positive attitudes and fight for work-life balance.

Study Purpose

The purpose of the observations and interviews is to help in the process of ensuring that the research does identify the problem that is being discussed in this case in the employee most natural environment. By first using observations it helps in the process of ensuring that the participants do not alter their behavior when they are being observed. Research that have been done in the previous years have specifically confirmed that burnout which a very huge problem that is associated with poor performance of employees and in the process costing an organization is directly related to the inability of the leadership or management of an organization to help its employees to balance between work and life (Poulose & Sudarsan, 2018)

In this case therefore, the specific research site of the said research would be in the organization that the research will choose. The workplace would be the best research site where employees will be observed and interviews. The workplace is specifically very important and effective because by choosing to consider and ensure that employees are observed the way that they function after they have had a long day in their homes and how these impacts and affects their general performance in their jobs (Wood et al., 2019). The workplace in this case will therefore be the best and the most suitable research site as it is the place where all the participants of the research can be found that is including the employees and the leaders or managers of the organization that is being considered in this case.

Knowing the research in this case is seeking to understand the effect and the struggles of balancing home and work-life and at the same time exploring how management and leadership affects work-life-balance, the target population therefore in this case will be both the employees and the managers or leaders. Employees are the people who are most affected if this balance between home and work life is not looked at. The employees are the ones who will experience burnout and, in the process, affecting their performance. On the other hand, it is the leadership or management that has the ability to determine how employees will work either from home or come up with a way that will help in the process of balancing their work life and their homes. These are therefore the target population that the research in this case will be addressing and seeking a way to understand these struggles that employees go through in the process of trying to balance their work life and home life.

In the process of choosing the participants of the study, the best and most suitable sampling method that will be applicable in this case would be sample random sampling. Since the work life balance is something that affects all employees in an organization, this therefore means that a there will be no need of having participants that do have unique characteristics. In random sampling, every individual will be chosen fully by chance, this therefore means that all people who are potential participants all have an equal chance of being selected (Zhang et al., 2021). The same sampling method will be used in the process of choosing the managers or leaders who will also be participating in the research as participants.

Looking at the research in this case, the proposed sample size that would help in generating the best results would a sample size of 40 participants that is 30 employees and 10 managers or leaders in the chosen organization.

As mentioned earlier, the data collection method that will be used in this case will be interviews and observations. The researcher will observe the employees or rather the participants in the research in their work environment and make notes as they are being observed on the way they are performing in relation to the standards that have been set in the organization. The researcher will go ahead and interview both the employees and the managers on the issue of work life balance and the way it is affecting the specific employees and the organization as a whole.

Research Question

The study research questions in this case is:

RQ1: What are the struggles of balancing home and work-life?

The research hypothesis in this therefore that work-life-balance has a significant effect on employee’s performance. If home and work life is not balanced, then this will have a significant impact on the general employee performance in terms of generating the results that are required.

Q1

[Phrasing for the research question must align with the traditions and conventions of the study method choice]?

Q1a

[Optional sub-research questions will be presented for quantitative or mixed methods studies with multiple hypotheses and formatted using Level 4 APA headers as shown]

Q1b

Hypothesis(es)

[Hypotheses are required for quantitative and mixed methods studies as well as for design science studies where quantitative testing is needed. If the study involves multiple hypotheses, sub-research questions are required above to align with each hypothesis. Variables introduced in the Study Purpose must be labeled verbatim to how they were introduced above to ensure alignment. Both a null followed by an alternate hypothesis are required and hypothesis headers are formatted as Level 2 APA headers. No introduction is required before the hypotheses.]

H10

[Phrasing for each null hypothesis must align with the traditions and conventions of the study method choice].

H1A

[Phrasing for each alternate hypothesis must be the identical contrast to the null and align with the traditions and conventions of the study method choice].

Research Method Rationale

The research method selected for this study is knowing that the research method that will be used in this case is interviews and observations as it has already been mentioned above, the reason as to why interview method has been chosen in this research is because it will help in understanding and explaining the behavior that has been seen and observed using the observation data collection method (Simonÿ et al., 2018). In this case therefore by seeking to carry out one on one interviews it will not only help in the process of ensuring that the employees do elaborate on how their work life balance affects them in terms of them not being effective in their jobs and how exactly they want their work-life-balance to be and how the leaders in the organization need to address the same. Also, by interviewing the leaders and managers of the organization because they will also be a part of the research as they are the ones who can help in the process of ensuring that this balance is achieved, it will help in getting their perspective of the issue in this case by helping in giving a rationale as to why work-life-balance of their employees is not considered. Also, this helps in proposing the best things that they can do in the process of ensuring that this balance is achieved

Review of the Literature Plan

[This section will begin with a brief introductory paragraph followed by a topical outline to present the primary areas of research as aligned with the study problem to be explored within the literature review. Be sure to consider the theoretical, conceptual, and seminal writings with an emphasis on empirical peer-reviewed literature as well as pertinent grey literature (e.g., government reports, white papers, conference proceedings, policy documents), as you categorically plan out the areas of the literature to be reviewed for the dissertation study. The topical outline will be formatted as Level 2 APA headers.]
