Research Paper Peer Review Questions

Use this form and add the formal MLA heading and your last name in the header. You will receive a homework grade for your detailed, constructive response to your partner’s paper. You will be graded for writing an analysis based on the following 8 questions. This form and the links to OWL will provide supportive information for revising your own draft and for adding MLA citations and strong analytical form. Remove general words like “this quote” or “the reader” from your essay.

Due Dates:

December 1, Wednesday: Peer Review partner assigned. Use the Inbox to email your partner the first draft outline including paragraphs 1 (introduction) with your thesis , paragraphs 3, 4, (subtopic 1-2 of the confirmation section) including a primary and secondary source quotation in each, and paragraph 7 (concession) responding to one of the secondary source author’s interpretation that differs from yours yet makes a valid point).

December 3, Friday: Submit the peer review to your partner using Canvas Inbox and submit it to me in the Module Four Submission Folder. Use the peer review questions and your partner’s suggestions to revise your first draft.

December 5, Sunday: Final Research Paper due in Submission Folder by midnight. Double-check to make sure the research process has been submitted to all of the submission folders: Research Process copies of Index Cards and the First Draft on the Formal Outline are required for acceptance.

Peer Review Questions: Read your partner’s draft completely before answering the peer review questions. Do not write on your partner’s draft. Use this form or open a Microsoft Word file and paste the following questions into the document. Begin with a complete MLA heading and the name of your partner. Write specific answers to the following questions for your partner.

To make a 100 on this assignment, you will need to give your partner a specific suggestion related to each part of each question so that you answer all questions fully. After reading your peer review, I should know many specific details about your partner’s essay including their thesis.

1. Is the thesis specific and complex enough to engage the reader’s interest? Explain. According to the thesis, what is the writer’s argumentative claim? Make a recommendation on how to revise this thesis to assert a more argumentative claim or how to reword it to make it more effective.

2. Does the thesis (the third and/or last sentence of the introduction) suggest how the paper will be organized and prepare the reader for 4 thematic subtopics that the paper will address? What are they? Are they stated in parallel form?

1. Which topic sentence contains the strongest claim? Copy it and explain its strength.

2. Which primary source quote is introduced most effectively by providing a comment on the context of the quote as well as an attributive tag? Introduce the speaker and the context of each quotation before stating the quote. Copy the introduction and the quote and discuss the strengths of the introduction.

3. Which quote needs to be introduced more clearly? How? Copy it and discuss how to improve it.

4. Does the writer also analyze the quote after stating it? Explain. Which secondary source quote is analyzed most effectively? How? (Avoid using the words “this quote” in your essay. Instead refer to the part of the quoted passage that you are commenting on. Suggest a better word choice if your partner does this.) Remind your partner to begin each sentence with clear, specific word choices like the narrator, the provocative wallpaper, or the looming bleakness, for example.

· Sentence J.) Synthesis of evidence that the quotations support. Rather than using the general term “quote,” your partner should identify the claim that the quotes support

· Sentence K.) Closing sentence summarizing the claim and suggesting the next topic. Each body paragraph of the confirmation should contain 9-11 sentences.

· Add a more specific introduction to a quoted passage.

· Restate an interpretation of a quote adding more specific details.
