Research Paper/Creative Project Instructions

The goal of the assignment is for you to do a deeper dive into a subject related to the course material that interests you!

You have two choices. You can write a research paper on a subject related to the course that you are interested in OR you can complete the creative project highlighting the most interesting places in the Universe. THE PROJECT IS DUE THE FINAL DAY OF CLASS!

RESEARCH PAPER INSTRUCTIONS:

• Please choose a subject/article/person that is related to what we have talked about in class and do some research.

• Write a 3 page paper detailing the information you found. For full credit this paper should connect what you have learned in class to the subject you are researching.

• Figures are encouraged but will not count towards the page limit.

• Please include at the end a list of references used in your work. There should be at least three sources. This need not be in any particular format just make sure to acknowledge your sources.

CREATIVE PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

• The Universe is full of interesting and unique places as we have learned in lecture. The goal of the assignment is to highlight some of the amazing things to see in the vastness of space.

• For this assignment we will pretend that it is 50 years in the future. Faster than light space travel around the Universe is common, quick and convenient. You are a travel agent working for SPACE TOURS LLC. You are looking to put together a fun 3 week package for your wealthy clients.

• Make a travel brochure that highlights 5 amazing destinations in the Universe. Make sure to keep it interesting by incorporating different types of objects to see (stars, galaxies, planets, moons, comets etc.)

• For each destination provide some background information about the object or place and reasons why it would be worth seeing.

• The format is up to you. Be Creative! Some suggestions:

-You can create a brochure. Make sure to include images and other interesting figures.

-You can make a power point presentation. You don’t need to present the information yourself but convert your slides into a PDF format for submission. Make sure the slides contain a lot of good information and ideas.

-You can make some kind of video presentation. Not sure what that would be but I am open to all creative ideas. You would need to submit some kind of notes or documentation along with the video.

-You could design a website for travelers to look at and book trips.

• The length is also up to you.. As a guide think about adding about 1/2 a page worth of information for each object not including pictures. Use the internet, your book and lectures to generate as much cool information as you can.

• Citing sources: You do not need to use citations but somewhere in the finished project I need you to give a list of the sources you used. No specific format but give credit to the people/places you got the information from.
