Answer: The topic is Anxiety and Depression

2. Devise a specific research question on an aspect of the topic.

Answer: What are the effects of anxiety and depression on the body and physical health?

3. Formulate a testable research hypothesis.

Answer: Anxiety and depression leads to more illnesses.

4. Identify the research design category you believe is suitable for investigating your

research question.

Answer: Case study, and qualitative approach; descriptive design.

5. Explain why this research design category is an appropriate choice. Use citations in this

area.

Answer: According to Newman (2016), the use of qualitative approaches help in understanding

the topic that is under investigation. While examining the effects of anxiety and depression on

the body and physical health, the use of descriptive design would the most effective method.

Descriptive design offers clear illustrations of the research content by describing thoughts,

behaviors and feelings (Newman, 2016).

Besides, case studies are also the best approaches of conducting a research study.

According to Newman (2016), therapeutic setting is portrayed in case studies where a researcher

directly engages with a participant and ask open-ended questions to obtain information needed

for the research. With the use of case studies, a researcher can solve the research problem by

making conclusions without carrying out experiments on the participant (Grimes, 2019).

These two techniques, case studies and descriptive approach, are of great significance to

my topic of research. Since I am trying to gain insight on the effects of anxiety and depression on

body and physical health, my objective is to describe the phenomenon. Thus, descriptive

approach would be the best approach.
