To what extent do policy-makers listen and act on the views of young people in making youth policies?
Exam essay for Youth Policy course
1. Assess the possibilities and limitations of social media in improving young people's social connectedness.
Assess – evaluate or estimate the nature, ability or quality.
Hi there, the professor didn’t really give us anything to start with, just left us this topic and we will have to figure it out by ourselves so I wrote a little something just to provide you a bit of inspiration.
But if you think you have better ideas about this topic you don’t have to follow up with what I wrote.
In order to write this essay you probs will need to:
1. Start with defining the term ‘social media’, as well as how it is influencing young people’s life (and in what way) in introduction;
2. In what ways are young people operating social media? How is social media intervening young people’s social life? Evaluate, or estimate the nature, ability or quality of how social media is both improving and at the same time destroying young people’s social connectedness? (this probs looks confusing but I hope you get what I mean)
3. Is social media improving young people’s social connectedness or their social well-being? Why/why not? (In addition, does social media damage other aspects of young people’s life? don’t have to use up too much word to assess this part, but will be nice to mention it).
4. Use examples from the readings and try to engage with 1 or 2 existing policies to back up the argument.
Word limit is 750 (not including reference). Cheers!
