Thematic Analysis: Between the World and Me
Assignment: Coates touches on several themes throughout the book. Among others, he writes about:

Please write an exploration / analysis of one of the themes listed above. How does Coates reinforce the idea of this theme in his text? Do you agree or disagree with his take on your chosen theme? Why? Would you describe his worldview as cynical or realistic? Why? Support all claims with evidence from the text of his book as well as from at least one of the other texts we’ve discussed up to this point in the semester.
Requirements:
1. 1,000-1,500 words, plus a Cover page, Abstract page, and References page.
2. Answer ALL questions asked in the paragraphs above.
3. No Block Quotes.
4. Minimum of 2 Sources (choose from any of what we’ve read up to this point in class).
5. Strict adherence to APA formatting (12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins all around, double-spaced, etc.).
The successful paper will do the following:
· Focus on the topic provided with adequate examples/examination of this topic
· Provide evidence (quotes) that demonstrate the theme/topic you’re analyzing
· Demonstrate critical thinking, reading, and writing skills by making sound claims and supporting them with evidence in an organized and logical manner
· Present a clear, arguable thesis statement in the introduction
· Have well organized paragraphs with clear topic sentences
· Effectively use transitions between paragraphs and ideas
· Support the thesis statement and other claims with textual evidence and examples
· Come to a conclusion that moves beyond summary
· Effectively synthesize textual material via quotations
