SECTION 1
What are the system's outward/obvious and hidden/indirect codes? How does the system of representation interact with and shape the meaning of the performance? How does the performance reproduce and/or challenge the codes of the system?
Social codes are implicit rules which monitor acceptable norms between groups of people living together. Representation involves the elaboration of hidden meaning in a language. During the performance, an individual must connect the system of representation and the importance of the performance. In the language representation, the apparent code is the ability to speak, but the hidden or indirect codes are proverbs common to a specific community. The performance challenges the system's code, particularly in the concept of the culture, by providing the meaning of the words within a language but not commonly used by the people proficient in that language.
The world of meat factory floor represents managers and workers who are proactive in providing meat products. Employees on the meat factory floor are the top performers. And there are employed based on the services and are paid in terms of wages and salaries. The main kind of performance is the ability of the employees to attract customers and retain the existing customers in the industry. The beginning of the performance starts from the rearing of livestock, and the end of the performance is the transaction process involving the meat purchase. The meat factory's performance consists of selling and buying, which is the norm of the business transaction world.
SECTION 2
A performance theorist might ask questions like: Who performs and under what conditions? How does the performance effect different types of audiences who view it with different, often conflicting perspectives, values and concerns? What were the conditions (context, setting) under which the performance was produced? What happened just before the performance? What happened after? How do those conditions impact the performance’s efficacy?
Every individual in a society is bound to perform a specific task, whether through the clothes we wear and the food we eat. Performance theorist believes each performance has key performers that need to be executed under conditions that govern a society or business environment. The performance theorists are always eager to know why performance was introduced and its effects on the audience. Every performance must indicate a gap in the society from the beginning, and by the end, the performance must provide a solution and positively impact community.
SECTION 3
What are the codes that drivers learn and rehearse in their bodies, each time they interact with the traffic light?
The purpose of traffic signals or traffic lights is to control the movement of vehicles on a busy road. Traffic signals involve green, red, and or amber light (Gershenson, 2004). The green light is always indicated that vehicles are allowed to process in the direction denoted by the light. The red light is an indication that vehicles are prohibited from proceeding. Traffics are supposed to stop until they are alert to proceed. Amber light is also called yellow or orange, is a warning signal that is about to change to the red light.
The drivers commonly used by the drivers when they counter traffic lights are the eyes and legs. In case of the red light, the driver needs to use their legs to press the brake pedal for the vehicle to stop. When there is a yellow light, the driver needs to slow down the car's speed to prepare for a stop; in this case, the driver needs to place their legs on the brake pedal to slow down the vehicle. The green light requires a driver to press the acceleration pedal and move towards the green light's direction.
In every culture across the globe, color is an essential aspect when explaining the hidden meaning. Different colors remind us of places and favorite traditions (Dvorsky & Hughes, 2008). Each color has a different meaning; for instance, the red color in India is a sign of beauty and love. Yellow color in France is a sign of contradiction, weakness, betrayal, or jealousy. On the other hand, green in Western cultures is a sign of freshness and money. The gender binary is a system where people are classified as either male or female. In the United States, most men like the blue color while the women are more appealing with orange color. The article written by Elliot, Greitemeyer, and Pazda in 2013 indicates that red color is used as a sign to attract men in the United States. People tend to shift the gender binary during the wedding where men wear black and women wear white clothes.
