SOC-386 Topic 4: Behavioral and Cognitive Theory Worksheet and Analysis
Directions: There are two parts to this assignment. Part 1 is to complete the chart. Part 2 is a brief analytical narrative summary.
Part 1: Theory Overview Chart
Directions: Provide a brief overview of each of the following theories in the box next to the theory. List what you view as the key components of each theory.
Theory Overview and Key Component of the Theory
Behavioral Learning Theory Learning is highlighted because it results in observable changes in an individual's behavior. The theory's main components are reinforcement, stimulus and response. (Craske, M. G. 2010)
Social Learning Theory People learn and adhere to social behavior through observational learning, according to the Social Learning Theory. Retention, motivation, motor reproduction, and attention are the four main components of the theory. (Craske, M. G. 2010)
Cognitive Behavioral Theory The eventual goal of Cognitive Behavior Theory is to induce behavioral and cognitive transformation using a mix of behavioral methods and cognitive processes. The theory's main points are around core beliefs and automatic thoughts. (Meshelemiah, J. C. 2016).

Psychoanalysis theories, on the other hand, are centered on human insight, which is said to be
unconscious. The idea of behaviorism is promoted with the primary goal of discussing external
influences that influence human behavior rather than knowledge. This philosophy is based on
determinism, experimentalism, and anti-mentalism, as well as nature vs. nature and positive
thinking. As previously said, psychoanalysis is centered on an individual's intelligence, and the
modern founders of psychology contended that the unconscious motivates human conduct.
(Craske, M. G. 2010) According to this idea, the human brain is divided into three sections:
conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Psychoanalysis is based on idiosyncratic beliefs,
dreams, and grammatical errors. (Craske, M. G. 2010)
I believe that external circumstances influence an individual's conduct. In today's
environment, youth are heavily impacted by their peers, which affects their conduct and
influences them to do things they did not plan to do. Employee exhibits in an organization are
influenced by organizational, regulatory, cultural, and environmental elements that affect them
either directly or indirectly. Human errors, for example, are caused by various variables such as
pressure or pressure from management on performance. Social learning is the greatest theory to
apply to my role as a generalist practitioner in social work.

Sensorimotor, qualitative changes. concrete operational, formal operations and preoperational are the fundamental components. (Craske, M. G. 2010)
Moral Development Theory When engaging with others, the theory aids individuals in understanding social norms. This starts from infancy and progresses from there. Individuals' feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are emphasized in this viewpoint. (Meshelemiah, J. C. 2016).
Humanistic Theory Humanistic Theory refers to an individual's ability to exercise free will in their acts. Personal progress, personal responsibility and Individual phenomenology are crucial areas.
Person-Centered Theory Person-Centered Theory is based on the premise that an evolutionary process is always open to modification and improvement. There are four essential areas of theory in which people are trustworthy, capable of understanding themselves, capable of solving their own problems, and capable of growing on their own.
(Dale, O., & Smith, R 2013).
Part 2: Brief Analysis and Summary
Individuals' behavior is studied by social scientists, who employ a variety of theories to
gain a better understanding of these behaviors and mental processes. Behavioral theories and
psychoanalytic theories, sometimes referred to as the school of thinking, are the two basic
hypotheses. The behaviorism theory takes into account an individual's exterior activities and
claims that these practices are impacted by external stimuli. (Dale, O., & Smith, R 2013).
