Family Health Assessment Part I

Family health assessment is a very vital tool that is utilized by physicians to inspect the

health position of families. The tool is imperative as it informs the physician what the families

family composition, race/ethnicity, social class, spirituality, and environment.

The assessed family was made up of six members that included two youngsters aged nine

and 12 years old, parents, mom aged 41, and dad aged 44 years old. Besides, the nuclear family,

other members included grandparents, grandmother aged 65 years, and grandfather aged 77 years

old. Peters is an African-American family that believes in Christ (Anglicans). The family lives in

a family-owned house in Colorado. The father and the mother are doctors who own a private clinic

and the grandparents are superannuated, but still very active in community work. The two children

in the family attend a private school in the neighborhood. Peters is a highly social family that likes

to socialize with neighbors when they are free from work and other activities. The family also has

consistent weekend retreats where they visit relations and associates or sometimes visit

refreshment centers (Ginsburg et al. 2019). Past functional assessment of the school-going children

and retired adults indicates that these groups of people are able inversely and that most of them

experience joint pains sporadically.

2. Summarize the overall health behaviors of the family. Describe the current health of the

family.

Based on the replies that were received from the questionnaires, it was evident that the

mother and the grandma play a big role in the management of family health. According to the

responses received from the grandmother and the mother in the family, they warrant that family

members avoid readymade and fast food. They make family meals daily after their long day

activities. The family diet is dominated by soup and salad made at home. Grandparents are

members of a laughing club, which they attend every Sunday evening. The father does not have

much time extra and therefore does not involve in any exercise. Father is fun of reading

newspapers, law books, and other magazines while the mother is a faun of watching television

soaps. Children return from school at around 4 pm and they trip the bicycle in the neighborhood

before taking shower and having dinner. The status health of family members is good.

3. Based on your findings, describe at least two of the functional health pattern strengths

noted in the findings. Discuss three areas in which health problems or barriers to health were

identified.

This family has countless functional health forms strengths, which seem to be contributing

to their decent health. The forerunners are in the giggling club and the whole family always has

evening stride to and from the market. They are consistent water drinkers and even children carry

bottled water to school. The family members eat numerous fruits and are lovers of green

vegetables, which are a portion of their daily diet. The major well-being concern in the family is

that the grandfather has anxiety as a retired army and this causes his blood pressure to rise suddenly

occasionally while the grandmother regularly complains of joint pains. Apart from riding the

bicycle in the compound, children in this family lead inactive routines and they are fun of video

for seven hours while kids sleep for nine hours. Father and mother have complained of despair,

work-related stress, and anxiety from labor pressure (Hung et al. 2017).

4. Describe how family systems theory can be applied to solicit changes in family members

that, in turn, initiate positive changes to the overall family functions over time.

The chief function of the family system theory is to clarify the role a family play in

changing distinct behavioral patterns. The family systems theory describes the role of a family in

an individual's overall behavioral pattern. The theory provides important functions such as sibling

behaviors, nuclear family issues, family problems, and emotional cut-off, which are assessed to

understand how the family is functioning in general (Erdem & Safi, 2018). For instance, if one

member of the family starts eating many fruits and vegetables, it is highly likely that other

members of the family will adopt the trend. The family has a huge impact on the mental well-being

of the children it is because of these that family values should be preserved.

Conclusion:

Based on the assessments of the Peters, it is clear that the relationship between family

members is good. However, identity and overall health behaviors seem to be moderate. The family

members retort well to changes especially health changes but their ability to cope with mental

problems such as anxiety and stress seems to be very low. Family members are sympathetic to

each other but it is clear that they are serious about the decisions individual members make.

Regardless of all these, it is evident from the assessment that their general health is good.
