difference between clinical significance and statistical significance. The statistically significant
results demonstrate a difference or relationship between variables that were not caused solely by
chance or normal variation (Harris et al., 2017). Statistical significance indicates the likelihood
that the research finding is true and does not happen by chance.
The probability (p-value) demonstrates the likelihood of randomness of a specific result
happening but not the genuine variance between study variables. In study analysis, results are
statistically significant when the (p-value) produced during analysis is less compared to the level
of certainty required by the scholar. In most studies, including the EBP, probability values of
0.05 are mostly set, demonstrating a likelihood of 5% that the results are not as a result of
probability and 95% likelihood that an actual relationship exists between study variables
analyzed.
Clinical significance is basically a study findings’ subjective interpretation as meaningful
for patient care and thus likely to affect caregivers’ behavior. A clinically significant result
happens when care experts feel that the study finding is considered adequate to be medically
vital and can be applied to guide patient care provision (Harris et al., 2017). Statistical
significance should always be established before clinical significance. Clinical significance is a
subjective evaluation that is not determined through one experimental test. I can utilize clinical
significance for supporting positive results of my resilience training by making sure the project’s
results are statistically significant. This is because most statistically significant results have
clinical significance.
